Then had to run and grab the 240 lbs sandbag and carry for 100 feet...

Next up was the deadlift medley - nailed all four in 22 seconds, including a car at the end!

Thanks everyone! Next contest that I am looking at has no weight classes so I could be giving up 50-100 lbs to other competitors - am really going to have to step it up at that one.

Yeah he was ~250 lbs in Utah at Nationals, a little lighter for this one.

Just curious, how much equivalent weight is deadlifting the car like that?

I found a group of guys who train for strongman. Last week I met with them. I've never done any strongman training, but I could flip the 800 pound tire pretty easy. It was a lot of fun and something I'd like to continue. Do strongman competitions have masters divisions like powerlifting? Or would I be competing against 20 year olds?

That car deadlift was equivalent to 650-700 lbs in the hands. You can increase the weight by adjusting the bars to e closer to the vehicle. It is a bit of a different movement than a trap bar pull though - since it is all based on leverage you actually use a lot more quads and less back.

For Strongman the only age categories are Teen, Open, and Masters. Teen is obviously 19 or younger and Masters is over 40. Sometimes you find Teen and Masters guys in the open class in smaller contests where the turnout for their division might not be as great. (it is more fun to compete against 10-20guys than to compete against 3-5).

Strongman training is a really fun way to get a great workout.

Thanks Dumbbell - my friends say I have "wrist cankles", haha.
