I have started incorporating floor presses back into my routine and was curious how beneficial are they if you have short arms/thick chest?

What I mean is that when I bring the bar down its about 1/2"-1" from my chest. I have my pinkie on the ring and legs straight out on the floor. I feel like I am doing a full ROM paused press.

When one of my workout buddies does floor presses, the bar touches his chest before his elbows touch the floor. I've asked him why he does them and, if I remember correctly, he said that it takes his legs out of the picture, so it changes things up enough from flat bench that he still does them.

Really good idea for people like Will who touches higher than where he takes the weight out...

if the bar is about an inch off your chest its about right

Really? When I do them the bar is about 4" or maybe more from my chest.

he was asking if that was too close to his chest.

Anything longer is fine as well.

The thing of it is, your triceps are still stopping the weight and starting from a static position.

Next time I do floor presses I'm going to try that. I also stop about an inch or less but I guess it will be something different.

Ok. I thought I had monkey arms there for a second.

It all depends on your groove. I have seen people who can touch and I have seen people who can't. Go as far down as you natual groove allows you and keep going from there. Not everyone is alike But floor presses teaches you your groove without your leg drive and it is just is a different angle to hit the bench

Thanks for the feedback guys. Do any of you vary your grip on floor presses(i.e narrow -> wide)?

Sorry I cant view the vids at work - Uncle Sammy blocks streaming video.

Yeah varying your grips is the best way IMO to increase your floor press
