Im wondering what a realistic goal is. Im doing the up your bench 30lbs in 30 days and it sems to be working very well right now and Im hoping I come out of it with a 225+ max. my next goal is 305 which im hoping by this time next year. does this sound realistic?

I think if you a beginner it is absolutely realistic. You'll never make as big of gains quickly as when you first start lifting seriously. That might not be the best explanation. Someone like you, your body is still adapting and has room to grow. Newbie gains so to speak. You take guys like Travis Bell of Vinnie Dizenzo, benching 700/800 + lbs, these guys have to work and toil to get a gain of 10-20 lbs. Hopefully one of those guys can explain it better than I just did!!!!

It depends a lot on your body, diet, training, and being consistent but you can only push your body so far to where it's going to take more and more time to increase the weight like you will at the beginning years of training. When I was into lifting years ago I maxed out at 250 with a bw of 175. My goal was 300 but I stopped lifting heavy and eating good but I knew it was going to take way longer to go from 250 to 300 than it did to go from 200 to 250. Just make sure you set your goals within reach so you don't get discouraged.
I just got back into it and went for a 1RM and got 210, my goal is to hit 250 again short term and my long term is 300.

how long did it take you to go from 225 to 305

Although I've been lifting weights for a long time, before last April, I hardly ever benched more than 225 (as I've stated here on this forum before, mostly because I was full of excuses). That's when I started training to be strong. When I started benching with my powerlifter buddies, in July, I was benching 275. The first time I benched 315 was in October. Last weekend I was really close to benching 335 in a competition environment, I'm sure I'll get it next time flat bench comes around in my ME bench training.

So, to answer your question, it took me about 6 months.

EDITED:
Opps, I just saw you question was 225 to 305. Why not 315? I honestly don't remember the first time I benched 305, as I didn't really view it as a big milestone. But I'm guessing it was probably September-ish.

I think he may be confused, thinking that adding another lid is 305, rather than 315. ???

Why such a big goal? Just try to go in and bench more every time. If you max 225, your goal should be 230 or 235 at the most. Hit those numbers and keep working and you'll pass 305 and keep on rolling. If you sit there with a 225 bench and keep chasing after an 80 lb PR, you're more likely to get frustrated and never reach it.

Keep it simple and keep working hard.

Where do you train in Middletown? Stop by "The Refuge" it is located around the corner from the dump in Middletown. They have a lot of powerlifters there. Ask for Nick Purro or Brian "superman" LaPila they are both cops from middletown and train there. Brian also trains at WOW I believe. They train bench on the weekends. You also can look for Knobler, Fetzer etc...All these guys put up big #'s and add people to the crew and help them all the time. That place has all the equipment to build up your bench among other lifts. From what I hear, PR's are set there weekly!!! I should take my own advice and drive the hour there! lol

oops yeah should be 315. I go to wow in cromwell right now. my girlfriend goes there and made me go. I set the weight goal because I like to have a goal to make me work. when I started ai was benching like 135 and wanted to do 100% of my body weight. I was 200 then, now 220 and my bench is 215. that was about 6 months ago. my fist step is 275 but my big goal will to break 300's

Why such a big goal?

I can understand it. I think it's good to have short term and long term goals. Both motivate in different ways, IMHO.

225 to 305 in 1 year? Absolutely. I trained shirted benching for 10 months and trained raw the last 2 and hit 305 as my PR. Its logged in my journal. I pretty much followed Vincent Dizenzo's raw bench program for those 8 weeks or so. Also did it while I maintained my body weight.

I think it's totally possible to go from 225 to 315 in one year... especially seeing as how you are a beginner. Since it took you 6 months to gain your first 90 pounds it's logical to assume that it'll take twice as long to gain another 90. But with a good solid routine, you could reach that milestone faster.

I agree, I started lifting but not serius back in 94. In 2001 i discovered powerlifting and in 7 months my bench went from 285 to 365 i almost got a 385 but my right elbow did not wanted to be part of the team..LOL!
