Can anyone give me a way to help a high school weightlifter cut about 5 lbs to get into a certain weight class?

If you trim down your food intake and make sure to get some cardio in, 5lbs should be doable within a few short weeks. If you are overweight, it may be doable in a week or two. Here are a few articles about fighters etc. cutting weight:

No **** - I can drop 5lbs in an hour if I have time to rehydrate...

Tell him to start smoking, crushes the appetite.

Plus he will look cool.

exactly...it's easy as hell to drop 5-6lbs of water.

If this is just before a weigh in than it's simple....cut carbs and sweat/pee/maybe even take a diuretic

once you're weighed in go eat/drink

now if you're talking about losing 5lbs (for real real) then that's a different story
