View Full Version : crushed finger on squats

kind of embarrassing but i crushed my pinky finger and split the nail in half after a warmup set of squats yesterday, blood everywhere. I was using a different squat rack with larger pins, and since i use such a spread out arm position, it got snagged between the bar and the pin. I should've been paying more attention, thankfully it was still on the warmup (225lbs). Anyone else had this happen?

Yeah, this happens ocasionally (I did it to my ring finger today, but not quite as bad; just pinched and cut the skin a bit). Really all you can do is be careful and aware of it. Ideally if you can use a monolift you can set the rack in or out to keep it away from your hands. Another option is to have spotters help you when you walk the weight back in and have them give you a verbal command when you're in the rack and your hands are clear before actually setting the weight down.

yep, i did this thursday haha. First time using a power rack instead of just a squat rack and i was all screwed up. For me to have a comfortable grip on the bar i literally touch the couplings on the end haha.

Ditto. I have done it, and for the same reason. I hate squatting in the rack. I barely fit in that thing!!! But, it's neccesary sometimes.

Lol i know what you mean by barely fitting in it haha. I take a step back and i hit the back of the thing...guess i just have to get used to it, huh? lol

I once actually fell backwards while walking out 365. My thumb somehow slammed against the safety guard with the weight on it. I'm pretty sure I dislocated my thumb, as my entire thumb and palm were purple for a week. Thankfully it healed quick.

Ha that happened to a friend of mine doing OH squats in the rack. Blood everywhere... went right to the bone.

yea it hurt like hell. im never squatting in a power rack again haha.
