View Full Version : Bulk or cut?

I know you guys must get this a lot, but I'm not sure if I should bulk or cut. I have been working out since September. I am 5'8 and around 158lbs. I would bulk, but I dont want to get fatter than I already am. I would cut, but I dont want to be a skinny little *****. Any advice? Heres a crappy cell phone pic:


I cant remember if I was trying to flex my abs or not.... but as you can see, I definately have a gut going on.

Also, I dont know if it matters, but my bench is 180, deadlift 250, and squat 175 (was in the 230s but I stopped squatting)

Catch 22 situation ...
Perhaps just eat a little over maintenance for a few months, gain some weight then see how you feel then. You may be able to lose a bit of fat while gaining muscle as you haven't been lifting long.

As its winter id bulk for a bit then cut for a couple of months before summer. If you have never cut before, do plenty of research. I didnt do much my first time and the results were horrible (lots of lbm loss).
