I want to build some plyo boxes for box squatting, step ups, jump ups, box lunges, etc. I found this design, but I'm concerned that the surface area for the top may not be big enough for box squatting. I'm not concerned about the height, I can figure that out, but want to make sure I make something that has enough surface area on the top for box squatting. This box is roughly a foot-and-a-half square.

Yeah, it would work but there's easier ways to make them. You could make them out of a bottom layer of 4x4's and a top layer of 2x6's and have a lot sturdier box. For instance: 2 - 4x4x8's and 2 - 2x6xx12's will yield you easily 2 boxes. Lay 24" pieces of 4x4 next to each other long ways touching. Then at 90 deg lay the 2x6's on top of that. That would give you 5.5" and even 6.25" if you put a 3/4" mat topper on. 2 boxes give you 12.5" and then you can just adjust with rubber mats or plywood. I'm sure that is clear as mud, haha.

yea- building more square boxes as opposed to this trapezoid nonesense would be much easier to do.
