Here are some videos of my last ME squat workout before my meet ( well kind of 90% ME workout ). I skied the day before which hurts my squat somewhat. I've also stopped trying to go wide because that was bothering my hips, probably that combined with skiing. I'm still having issues knowing where parallel is by myself or without a mirror. Anyway, here are a few videos, constructive comments will be appreciated.

LOL I always laugh when I see your videos because you are such a big guy that your back spotter could walk right under the bar and not touch his head. Good luck in your meet BTO!

That's what I'm trying to decide. I haven't squatted at a meet before, so I'm thinking something easy for me to get, but not too easy. At my last meet, I found that weight that was somewhat challenging in the gym was easy at the meet. So, I'm thinking 180 kilos ( 396 pounds ). If anybody has any advice on this I'd like to hear it.

Since this is your first meet, pick something you're very comfortable with and could probably triple in the gym. You're gonna be nervous/excited and you just want to get that first attempt down solid.

I'd go with something like this: 1st attempt - something you can triple, 2nd attempt: current PR, 3rd attempt: set new PR.

Are you planning on lifting in your squat suit? If so I think 396 is too light. When we did our practice meet you opened pretty low and ended up having to guess how much more weight to add for your 3rd squat. You hit 445 but still had plenty left in the tank. If you really want to look at your 1st squat as a last warm up then 396 might be ok but then you would probably have to jump up quite a bit higher for your second attempt. Set yourself up so you have a solid number after your second (near your current PR) then go for a PR on your third. Of course I haven't even competed yet, but this is my plan for April. I just think your even stronger than you think you are in squat and would like to see you crush a big PR at the meet.

Yes, there is no raw at this meet, so even though I need to bench raw, I'm squatting in my suit.

I (snip) would like to see you crush a big PR at the meet.

Me too!

Those were deep as hell.

If you are squatting in your suit why weren't you wearing it?

I'd be wearing that thing for sure, plus your having hip pain. There's another reason to wear it.

I'd have to see you squat in your suit before I picked an opener.

I was wearing the suit, it was cold so I was wearing the shirt and shorts over it. Guess I should have taken them off when I squatted.

All those looked easy and deep...and it looked as the bar went down and up 4 feet! LOL! 425 should be a good opener I think...good luck! for some reason the adrenaline is always higher when you got 3 judges around you so you might find that 425 feels like 365 in the gym. thats how i used to feel.

Okay, gotcha. I'd open 365. The opener is just to get you on the board. You've never squatted a monolift before, so stick with something you can triple. Take bigger jumps.

Unfortunately that's probably about right, lol. Too bad things at the meet aren't based on how much work ( ie force x distance ) you do.

Thanks everybody for your comments and advice.

As easy is 445 went up I would open up with 425, then 450, then maybe 475. You looked like you broke parallel.
