ive been trying to get my bench up to a 225 max for about a couple months now. ive hit 205 once before like 3 months ago. the last month my bench routine has been 3 different ones im going to max out next week im not sure what i should try. do you think i could handle 225? im also wondering if you guys every notice that you get worn out after trying a lower weight max than trying a heavier one. im worried if i try something like 215 and then 225 i wont have a chance with the 225. what do you think i should do?


set 1: 175/6 no hand off
set 2: 175 8 hand off
set 3: 175 6 no hand off
or
set1: 175/8 no hand off
set2: 185/4 hand off
set3: 195/2 hand off
or
set 1: 185/5 hand off
set 2: 175/7 no hand off
set 3: 185/4 hand off

If your going to attempt a max / pr i would get a hand off on every set except for your first 1 or 2 warm up sets.

I usually this little chart as a general guideline when it comes to maxing

Hmm, but why would you do your previous max when attempting a new max? I'd skip that sixth set and go for it after 5.

the way i understand the chart is the 6th set is your new max that you were planning to work up to. The 7th set is just to see if you are stronger than you estimated

Far over thought. Just warm up, start doing singles and hit a max

It's not up to use to believe that you can do 225. It's up to you to believe that you can do 225. If you believe, then you can achieve it.

Example Max Routine for 225
Push x 10
Bar x 10
135 x 6
185 x 1
205 x 1
225 x 1
*rest 3-5 minutes between each set
*get a good night sleep before your max workout
*try a pre-workout supplement

Something that seems to help me too is eating like a pig the night before. If I go out to McDonalds or KFC and eat all I can Ill have a good training session the day after.

For a warmup, I'd do this:
100x8
135x5
170x2
200x1
225x1

Go for 225...get ready for it, get mentally prepaired...then do it and be happy you didn't go for 215, hah.

I don't even understand what your examples mean, though. Are they seriously how you warm up? Is that what you were doing in the previous weeks? Anyways...

warm up with 135 and just do singles after that. maybe like 155, 185, 205, 225 and if you are really psyched up dont stop there...try 235...do what I do, I get in my head that my max is 20-40lbs higher that what it really is.

my examples were just how ive been doing the previous weeks. i would take a pre workout supp besides protein but nothing seems to be able to do something the first time besides stuff like gakic, but i heard bad things from them. ill go for the 225. i get worn down easily with lots of warmups i think singles would be better for me.
