View Full Version : Protein = pimples?

I'm 26 and have not had pimples since my teens. However, last week I started taking Protein, and I seem to be breaking out with pimples, mostly on my upper arms, chest, and on my back. This hadn't happened to me in ages. Is it the Protein? I also started taking a multivitamin. Could that be it, too?
How can I avoid this happening, aside from not taking the protein (or vitamins)? I already drink a lot of water -- about 10 glasses a day...

What else is in the protein? Maybe a lot of sugar?

Tryska: yes, it's Whey. ricky0000, I'm not sure about the sugar content. It's "Designer Protein"...

there's another post about dairy and zits.....

Hmmm... no, I don't eat a lot of dairy, but as I said before, I am now taking a multivitamin, which I didn't used to do... maybe THAT'S what's doing it and not the protein? (I take my protein with water or juice, not with milk)....

yeah but whey is a dairy product.
it might be your multi. the only thing you ca do is cut one or the other, or both out, wait for your skin to get clearer, and then add each on in by itself to see what's causing the problem.

I'm no expert on this but, if you are starting to workout more effectively this could potentially raise your natural testosterone levels which i'm thinking could lead to an outbreak of acne.

you could be allergic to one of the ingriedients in the whey protein

You should try supplementing with zinc. Zinc should help clear up your skin (maybe some ZMA before bed).

good idea.....it inhibits the test conversion to DHT.

I tried the superdosing with vitamin B5....no more actual breakouts. 5 grams a day for about 3 months...take a gram with each meal. I would try this if your other efforts fail. My breakouts were not incredibly bad though.

I get them to..
Don't worry, it only lasts a few weeks, and then your body adjusts
I know its the protein, cuz when I was off it for awhile and started taking it again, it happened..

So do you get acne when you eat steak and chicken breasts too? Or eggs?

Not sure.. cuz I take the shakes when I am eating "healthy" anyways. If I am not eating healthy, i don't eat that stuff :)
However, its a good point. It could be the milk I mix with it...
or something in the powder...

i'm guessing it's sensitivity to dairy protein.
actually, i am ripe for this test in the next week or so. i've been getting a hormonal breakout for the past year or so, but i've also been relying too much on dairy for my protein needs for the past year. since i've cut it all out now (except for that cottage cheese), i'm waiting to see if i get that type of breakout again this month.
