Is there some reason that alot of weight lifters dont drink pop? Almost everybody I know that pumps iron says they dont drink pop. I myself quit drinking pop a month ago and havent had anykind of carbonated drink since, Ive just been drinking milk and water. But does pop affect muscle growth or something?

Regular pop is filled with empty carbs and calories in the form of high fructose corn syrup, and most pop has some caffiene in it as well. So if people are cutting or trying to stay lean, they are probably avoiding regular pop. I drink Diet Coke/Pepsi, but some people don't like artificial sweetners so they avoid those as well.

I'd presume it's because it's effectively empty calories, there's not really any nutritional benefit to soda and weight lifters are generally quite concerned about what goes in their bodies. I'd compare it to alcohol without the added benefit of getting you drunk.

No. It's the equivelent of giving up candy. Empty calories, no nutrional benefit, etc.

I've had Diet Coke for so long that I can't do Coke Zero. It tastes too sweet. I do like Sprite Zero though.

That doesn't really count since there is not Diet Sprite.

There used to be. It was introduced at the same time as Coke Zero but just completely replaced Diet Sprite with Sprite Zero.

coke zero is the truth too. I just drank a diet pepsi. hell, diet soda is def. my biggest "vice" if you want to call it that.

If aspartame causes cancer, then I'd already be dead.

It doesn't, the whole "it gets converted into formaldehyde" thing was a big time myth.

But if you condition the hair that grows on your palms, it just heightens the experience.

Only if you let your teeth soak in it for 2 weeks. Otherwise, if you have good dental hygiene, you're going to be fine.
