Dude, you're far too hard on yourself. You look very impressive and large! I wouldn't cut, but it's all on you and what you'd be most happy with. I agree that your wheels need work but everything else is in great proportion and developed very nicely! Great work and keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

I really do wish I could afford to bulk a bit more. My future career (still hoping I get accepted) is relying on me to get into the best physical shape possible. I honestly think 185lbs is still a bit too heavy..

look much larger than 205. I don't see 20lbs to drop. You'll burn a lot of muscle going that low.

Just a slow cut. It took a lot of work to build that muscle. Don't drop the cals too low and burn the muscle too fast.

To be honest with everyone, I have never really cared for what I ate(until now). I have no clue what I will be doing, barely started venturing into the diet section lol.

You guys do make a good point, I'd hate to lose my muscle mass and strength. I may have to change my mind and take everyones advice.

What is this keto diet you speak of? I shall search for the details in the meantime.

xtian
03-17-2009, 09:37 PM
whoa, looks like the keto diet is basically cutting out carbs. Has anyone tried this diet and worked out heavy at the same time?

Keith
03-17-2009, 10:29 PM
I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to maintain as much muscle and strength as possible, I would just do a simple caloric deficit. Shoot for a loss of about 1 lb/week. Don't make it too complicated since you're new to dieting. If you're feeling too hungry and/or not losing enough weight, throw in some form of cardio.

185 too big for law enforcement? i've been a police officer for 2 1/2 years now, started at 220 lbs, i currently weigh 185, trust me the average cop ( at least in philly) is 200 lbs of out of shape mess, you're in better shape ( based on physique atleast) than 90-95% of cops out there.

I'm more concerned with what I weigh coming into the academy. With my past injury history(ankle ligament repair and microfracture a year ago), it might be in my best interest to lose a few per my ortho specialist:cry:

Do you remember how fast the DI's had you run a mile?

Well, bensalem police are actually trained at our academy in philadelphia, and the requirements are 1 1/2 mile in 12:24 if you're a male from age 19-29, i ran mine in 9:04

well across the board for the most part i've read, philly's requirements (physically) are much tougher than most academys... as far as academically, its much easier, there are some ******ed cops in philly. fitness is much more important in these areas because we have the highest police killings in the country, i think we're up to 7 cops murdered in the past year in a half or so.

Impressive pics, particularly the arms mate.

Have you looked at 'The Abs Diet' by David Zinczenko?

I started it 3 weeks ago and my BF% has gone down from 25% to 21.3% in 3 weeks. Obviously your BF is a lot lower but the whole book is about burning fat and has worked for me so far.

You'll find it on amazon really cheap.

I've been following builts "baby got back" for awhile(back and legs twice a week). I guess doing back twice a week has really done a number on my arms. For my direct arm work, its pretty much go heavy or go home when I do BB/DB shoulder presses, BB curls, and close grip bench press.

do you use supplements?

Whey and creatine.

If you're worried about meeting certain athletic goals, I would train for those specific goals as opposed to worrying about 'cutting' or dropping weight. Seriously, you look good and are around 12% bodyfat. You've got no worries - just add cardio and work on pounding out some miles. Ask your ortho about prehab/rehab for the old injury.

Did you check the date before you posted, I assume you didn't. The answer to your question btw, is......... there is no definite answer, it varies one to another. Eat when your hungry, and eat till your full. Then, eat some more. And drink milk. And squat, Heavy, like really heavy, like so heavy it makes heavy things seem.... not heavy. And, If you have and honest question like above, start a thread, state your stats and goals, and then you will be given a healthy amount of good quality information. I applaud your use of the search bar. And dont forget to eat.

Great work bro. I am almost 5'10 ( 5'9 and 1/2 lol ) and my lifts are almost identical to yours except my bench which is low 200's ( RC issues but starting to push it again ) and this really gives me an idea of of what I can look like if I can drop off quite a bit of body fat ( I was 265 last time I weighed myself ). Keep up the solid work.
