That is some crazy strong stuff tom. Very impressive! what do you think has helped your box jumps the most?

Tom, there's no reason you shouldn't be pro this year. I know you want it at Nats but you're wasting your time in the Ams. Go get it.

I appreciate the good feedback from everyone.

Since I don't do a whole lot of plyometric work I would say that it does have a lot to do with power cleans and squat variations. The power cleans will help you to improve your timing and explosiveness, and squat variations can build great leg strength (I don't do a ton of traditional back squatting but I do box squat, front squat, and ATG squat). Doing standing broad jumps does seem to help you to get familiar with jumping and is a lot safer than trying to get up on a platform or something, so that might be a good place to start.

Thanks Ben, that means a lot coming from someone who has battled through the ranks. Right now I have my sights set on a couple of goals including a local circuit called the "Southern Strongman Slam" which is 6-7 contest tournament across GA, VA, NC, and SC - with the winner earning a prize package worth $1000+ (cash, prizes, free entries to all contests next year). Will also be looking to qualify for Nationals in the 265 lbs class - weighing around 225 lbs.

I plan on driving down to Orlando to support my training partners and watch, but I'll probably bring my gym bag as well just in case :)

Thats some beastly stuff ... Nice work Tom.

Those Box Jump are real impressive ... May be a dumb question but ... Can you dunk a basketball?

Mcdonough - Thank you, I actually can't palm a basketball but used to be able to get up over the rim. Probably not right now because I am heavier... when I was 185 lbs and a couple of years younger had a 36-38" vertical. As funny as it is I think it is from skateboarding for a couple of years in middle school and then racing BMX bikes in high school (a lot of jumping!).

Nice. Yeah i can imagine it being hard at your size and i know its hard when your under 6'. Im only about an inch taller than you and dunking a basketball is just one of those things i wanna be able to do just once before my times up.

Ive lurked these forums for years and I must say Tom, your posts provide some of the most intriguing, least biased, and backed points. Always enjoy reading your posts. And seeing a video like this is just even more awesome.

You're a large inspiration to me and I really really enjoyed watching this film.
Awesome stuff, you're a monster!

Appreciate the nice works. Glad that someone is reading all of this stuff that I write - sometimes I am sitting there for 15-20 minutes typing a response!

Thank you. Chances are that I will not be competing in the next two platinum plus events, but I am presently pursuing the Southern Strongman Slam Circuit Championship and will likely make a run at another National Championship this year.
