I was wondering how long did you guys train before you entered your first meet?

weightlifted for maybe 2 or 3 years, trained as a powerlifter for maybe 4-5 months.

Lifted weights off and on for 7 or 8 years, then trained as a powerlifter for the meet for about 3-4 months.

off and on around sport seasons for 3 years, trained for PL for 2, did strongman for 3 or 4 months before doing my first SM comp, did my first PL meet a few months after that.

I lifted weights for years for sports and was already fairly strong, but after I went to lifting full-time for power, it was probably about the 8 month mark when I entered my first meet.

i entered my frist meet after 7 yrs of training. i came across a meet and went to it 3 weeks later.

I trained as a bodybuilder for 13 years and decided to start powerlifting and was training for my first meet when I was injured in a b.s. accident in a Bally's of all places which led to a 6 year lay-off.I came back almost 3 years ago and decided to solely train for powerlifting and did my first meet after about 8 months back in the gym.The hardest part for me was getting used to training to strengthen my lifts instead of training to build and sculpt (sounds pretty gay,I know!) muscles.I think a lot of new lifters think they have to be able to hit certain weights before competing and that is definitely not true as you'll take so much more experience with you from competing than not.I started lifting 22 year ago and it still amazes me that every day I learn something new.

On and off since 1994 (was in the military) and was overseas when got interested in powerlifting in 2001-02. I think I trained for a meet 3-4 months after finding out that we were gonna have one in the area. Then took a long 3+ year lay off from the gym and just got back at it back in Dec 08 and plan to compete again sometime around oct-dec. Just wanna do at least 6 months of raw training and 4 with gear before I get back on the platform.

Started lifting consistently ~ 25 years ago. Began training solely for strength 3 years ago and entered my first meet after about 6 - 8 months of PL training.

I started at 14 as a football player and after college ball I went into bodybuilding. My 1st sanctioned PL meet was in 86 when I was 30; so 16 years before my 1st PL meet.

Been weight training since '88. PL'ed in the early 90's but was injured pretty badly. Started again 2 yrs ago and entered first comp 10 months afterward.

in high school i started in Nov 94 lifting for football and went in my first one in Feb 95. It was mandatory for the football team to do it.

I trained for my first PL meet for about 2mths

However I had been lifting weights for about 5 years at that time

About exactly the same thing for me that TB said... It was an Army Moral, Welfare, and Recreational (MWR) put on meet in the Army, so not quite official, but it was my first.

I just did a USAPL collegiate meet February and that was a good 2 years later.

I lifted weights since 11yrs old but only 3 years as a powerlifter before my first major comp.
