I'm kinda looking for something new to start getting over these plateaus i'm having. I have been on creatine nearly two years, My diet is in check, I take a multi and a fish oil daily, I drink 1-2 protein shakes a day. in the last six months or so i started taking ibuprofin,caffeine,anti-cramp pill, and NO before lifting and right after I finish I have a protein shake and glutamine. I have been doing all of this with good sucess but lately i haven't been getting near as much progress.

I'm looking to gain maybe 10-25lbs before summer is over it's gonna be my last year in sports and i really want to EXPLODE in every sport i do (track, wrestling, football). I have been using a good 5x5 routine when lifting.

(on a side note i do feel great though I'm the best i have ever been)

Just wanting to see if anyone might have idea's or any suggestions to toss my way.

thanks, Colt S. (Weasel #67)

Gaining 25 lbs this summer probably won't happen and is not the best idea. 5-10 lbs might be doable, but you want to keep your speed and conditioning. Focus on getting a little stronger and heading into summer camp in the best shape you can be. If you feel the best you have ever felt, don't screw it up.

Maintaining speed and conditioning is going to be much much more dependant on your training than how much weigh you gain. Highschool age athletes especially are at such a growing stage in their life, they have the ability to gain weight and still get faster and stronger. Just depends on what they are doing in the gym

5x5 might not be the best sport specific choice though

Regardless, you asked for supplement advice and it sounds like you're already consuming a good amount of supplements. Gain weight = eat more food. A weight gainer like listed above would help give you an extra edge, but I'd also drop the NO products. Those are junk. Often times I have my athletes going into fall 2/days just a tad heavy because it'll come off in a hurry through the abuse of 2/days.

Ya 25 was just my top end of what i wanted to gain (wrestleing season is after football) I figured my gain would definately be less than that. I run 20's and/or 40's and i stay really quick and explosive.

Thanks for the advice on weight gainers I have a jug or two I haven't used any of them at all I'm gonna look into starting on one.

What kind of weight gainers do you have on hand? And why do you want to gain the 15-25 lbs?

Gaining body mass in general may help slightly with some sports but focusing on optimizing your strength and conditioning would do the most for your performance on the field/court/etc.

If you are not already using a good quality creatine product I would add that, along with beta-alanine. Caffeine for pre-workout is fine but don't waste money on "NO" products, they will not help you towards your goals.

Make sure that you are drinking 2-3 whey/blend protein shakes per day so that you are feeding yourself properly and you are going to have to train like an animal but also train smart. Find a program with progressive loading such as an accelerated 5/3/1. I would also recommend finding a training partner who is stronger than you, preferably another competitive athlete. Make sure that you focus on good form and constantly push yourself while tracking PR's and setting goals.

There is a program on here that I wrote up for someone called "how to gain 10 lbs in two months" - I would recommend taking a look at that if you want a quick refresher on some of the things to include in your program (diet/supplements/lifestyle).
