View Full Version : I invented a new bench excersise

so I was at my regular gym and wanted to do heavy lockouts. I dont like to do them in the rack off of the bars, and i really diddnt want to use the smith. no boards so I improvised.
There are some milk crates laying around at the gym, so I said hey, lets try that out. man, it worked great, it compressed into my chest like boards and its tall.
It was however interesting to ask someone to hold a crate on my chest so my buddy could hand off and spot.

It'd be kinda tall wouldn't it?

Seems like that'd be 4brd or 5brd height

Haha ive done stuff like that. My biology book was the equivalent of a 2 board, calculus was a one board and my chem book would be a 4 board or something haha. I call them textbook presses for obvious reasons. I have also used tupperware under my shirt as well.

I hope they are sturdy... I really don't want to read about a ride to the hospital with a barbell + milk crate embedded in your chest.

it is like 4 board height. which is what I wanted. maybe 5, but I just wanted to do lockouts pretty much. they do NOT like when you bring boards although next week I probably will anyway

Sorry but thats not a new exercise you just used something that i wouldn't recomend to sue as boards. If I tried that the milk box would shatter and I would end up either pissed off or hurt.

BTW, Rob bench's about 1/2 a ton, so yeah, crates wouldnt be an option for him...

PS: If they dont allow brds. (Translation;fluff gym) find another gym or go late at night like me!

yeah it seemed to work well, you definitely have to have the closed end on your chest. I dont think I would want 7or 800 lbs on it but I made it work.
I do go to another gym but if I cant get anyone else to go with me I have to go to the regular gym.
next time Ill just walk in real quick with boards so I dont kill myself with milk crate shrapnel

Im in Middletown right now. I go to WOW in Cromwell usually and, The Refuge, But Im moving to Meriden so I might have to find another regular gym. You?

If you were at The Refuge on Sunday training with the boards, why were you doing ME chest again on Tuesday with a milk crate? Just curious.

just doing heavy lockouts on tues. just worked a couple sets of 3 after deadlifting to get used to heavier weights Ill be using in the shirt
