Ok, I have been reading around and looking at some stickes here and there and I have finally decided the benefits that fish oil can give are too great to be missing out on. I have some questions if you guys don't mind helping me out a bit. :)
- I am looking for fish oil in pill form/gel cap. What is a good brand that I can get that is a pretty decent price?
- I have heard some varying opionions on how much fish oil one should be taking each day. Some people have said 2 capsules a day and other have said 8-10 capsules a day. So I want to here what you have to say on this matter. How many do you guys/gals take on an average day?
So that is all of my questions at the moment. Thanks for reading. :hello:

Siked -
Fish oil has proven to be a beneficial supplement for a lot of people.
Which brand you pick is not as important as the EPA/DHA content, which are Omega-3 fatty acids. A lot of people use "Natrol" brand, and the company who sponsors this site (AtLarge (http://atlargenutrition.com/nutrition_detail.php?products_id=15&osCsid=558983fa83cb5305623f0cda1febdc99)) also offers a good fish oil product for around $10/bottle.
With regard to dosing it really depends on why you are taking it. The American Heart Association recommends the consumption of 1g of fish oil daily, preferably by eating fish, for patients with coronary heart disease. Optimal dosage does relate to body weight though. Most of the products on the market also suggest a 1 gram / 1 softgel per day dosing schedule. For a larger individual (Over 200 lbs) then you may want to bump that up to 2 grams, or if you are using a less potent product (one with less EPA/DHA).
For people who are taking Fish Oil for the anti-inflammatory benefits and joint health, then a higher does would generally be used. The numbers for this do vary but generally are in the 8-10 grams daily range.
Here is some additional information from the American Heart Association website: Fish & Omega-3 Fatty Acids (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4632)

One thing to note with "mega-dosing" fish oil:
The US National Institutes of Health lists three conditions for which fish oil and other omega-3 sources are most highly recommended: hypertriglyceridemia, secondary cardiovascular disease prevention and high blood pressure. It then lists 27 other conditions for which there is less evidence. It also lists possible safety concerns: "Intake of 3 grams per day or greater of omega-3 fatty acids may increase the risk of bleeding, although there is little evidence of significant bleeding risk at lower doses. Very large intakes of fish oil/omega-3 fatty acids may increase the risk of hemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke."

Wow Tom thanks for the great info. Very much appreciated. To bad I read about what brands most people use a little to late. I picked up Finest Natural Fish Oil earlier today. It was about 8 bucks for 100 gel caps, so I guess it was alright for me to try it out and if I don't like it I didn't spend to much money.
Thanks for all of your help man, you definatly really helped me out with goods and bads of fish oil.

I shoot for 3g a day of omega 3, which equates to 10 fishoil pills to get the right dosing.

Only if you don't like the fish oil burps.
Freezing the oil will delay the absorption, so the capsule will be further down along gi-tract before it starts to dissolve

This is a good tip, and that is how I store my Fish Oil.
