Gentleman,

What kind of shoes do you guys use to sqaut? I see a lot of people use a flat sole's while some prefer a slight heel. I wear the old "chuck taylors" myself...

I know they are good for DL'ing but It seems you need a good bit of flexiblity in your achilles to get to parallel/ deep enough.

Maybe I'm just getting old, as it didnt seem to bother me when I was younger!
Let me hear from my fellow Master competitors too!

Thx.
Rob

Has anyone tried the shoes they make for powerlifters? The inzer's pillar shoes or Crains powerlifting shoes?

I have wondered about them for a while.

I knew the Metal shoes were supposedly the best out there, but I don't think they are avail. anymore, Elite certainly doesn't carry em anyway.

Chucks are cheap, easy to find, and easily one of the best out there.

Those Crain Shoes look AWFUL (like most Crains gear)

Jesse,

You didnt mention what you wear. I know you're a heavy squat guy, so is it flat or heel?

Will, I'm not positive, but I think I read on Elite's Q and A, that they stopped carrying them, but you could still buy them through Metal. But I'm not 100% positive.

I wear Chucks for deadlifting but I wear olympic squat shoes for squatting (solid, raised heel). I think if you squat super wide Chucks are good but if you're a medium to narrow stance squatter then olympic squat shoes are the way to go.

You can, but they are still difficult to get. Apparently Metal has problems getting them made.

For me its always been flat, but I havent tried a raised heel. I wouldnt be opposed to one, just havent had to opportunity.

Honestly, its whatever I have at the time, and if its not good enough, its barefoot.

I agree with deeder. If you are a narrower squatter you'll probably do better with a heel. I squat extremely wide and use what I think is the best squat shoe on the planet, Chucks...also the ugliest shoe on the planet! LOL!

I use chucks for most of my stuff, but a few months ago before I moved one of my fellow lifters gave me a pair of Safe brand shoes, the contendor model. Didnt realize they were $160 at the time so i was very grateful. They are great I feel a bit more stable in the hole with them.
