View Full Version : creatine with tonic water?

This creatine I have like most of the creatines out there on the market doesn't dissolve worth a damn. I understand that if you mix it with warm water it will dissolve faster, but that seems kind of gross. I just read that creatine is also more easily dissolved in a carbonated beveridge. Has anyone ever tried creatine mixed with tonic water?

Just drop the spoonful in your mouth and rinse it down with sugary beverage (fruit juice, gatorade, etc.). I don't try to mix because it usually ends up leaving some residue on the bottom of the glass. It doesn't really taste like anything so it's not too unpleasant.

This is what I do.

Thanks for the tip guys but the reason I posted this was because I am concerned about the creatine monohydrate I'm taking not dissolving very well into my system. Your advice, though well taken, does nothing to speed up the dissolution of the creatine. If the creatine gets stuck in your gastro-intestinal tract, your body takes water from cells elsewhere in order to try and speed up the dissolving process. This is why some people get diahrrea after taking creatine. If it doesn't dissolve, then that means it is just excreted away, along with your money. The only reason I continue to take creatine is because I THINK that due to the higher temperature in your body along with the acids present in your system, the creatine is soon broken down. But I am really not sure, and this is why I was asking whether or not anyone has tried a carbonated beveridge such as soda water in order to assure the creatine is properly diluted upon ingestion.

It doesn't matter if it's dissolved in to the water when you drink it. You will however have better absorption if taken with a fast acting carb. Many people recommend drinking it with some grape juice or apple juice. Most of the expensive creatines are just creatine (with some fancy designer name) and sugar.

I'm not saying you're wrong. But where are you getting this?

My friend was telling me something about creatine monohydrate not dissolving properly in your stomach so I just did a google search on the subject and found a few people that agreed with him. There are of course a lot of people who disagree. Who knows, it could just be a marketing ploy by some other company that wants you to buy there creatine instead.

if your friend is not a scientific researcher, with case studies...then you can't take his word or the few people on the intarwebz that agree with him as anything but their opinion.

True. But just because someone is a "scientific researcher," doesn't mean much either. They could be paid by a certain company to come up with certain results, or they could be completely lying about being a scientist altogether.

Ok you first say creatine dissolves in warm water but now your saying it won't in your body. Lets go over some chemistry here.

1) Your body=warm water, it will dissolve in your body. The digestive tract is very long and will have plenty of time to dissolve and be absorbed.
2) Your stomach churns everything. It will continuously mix creatine in your stomach with new sources of water to dissolve it.
3) Your digestive tract changes pH. I just looked at the molecule of creatine and in acidic environment (IE your stomach) it is very soluble. The reason why people say creatine is soluble in carbonated drinks is because carbonated drinks are acidic (2 points for the chemist!). I dont know how true that really is but it seems consistent.
4) Stop worrying and study the body before assuming things :)

Your view on things are quite rudimentary. Just because it doesn't dissolve completely in a small glass of water in front of you doesn't mean it won't dissolve in your body. Your body is vastly different then that.
