OK workout squat went up 5 pounds, but I started getting dizzy on the strict overhead presses, and a little bit on the power cleans :(, so those didn't go to well. I did increase the weight on the cleans still but only did it for 3 reps. Because of the dizzyness, I stayed at the gym a little longer then usual.

Lifted yesterday but late at night, so I didn't have time to put it on here. Tried to increase weight on everything, so the numbers are different for each set, mostly just trying to see how much I can do, Im hoping I can do everything at the same weight for all the reps like rippetoe recommends, thats my goal for now. Im hoping I can make that happen by this time next month!

Squats:
1x3x45
1x5x115
1x2x205lbs
Working Sets:
1x5x265
2x5x260

1x1x115
Working Sets:
1x3x165~again seeing how much I can do, while still keeping good form.
2x5x145

Power Cleans: They took a while, the gym was pretty packed so I had to do a rep and wait until I had enough space!
1x3x95
Working Sets:
1x3x155
2x5x145
2x3x135

Working Set:
3x5x95lb dumbells~ Incline

Deadlift:
1x3x135
1x5x205
Working set:
1x5x365 ~ deadlifts felt easier today, maybe because I didn't squat, I was just trying to see If I do one rep but it wasn't that hard at all. Im going to stick to this weight for a while though:redface:

In and out of the gym in around 35 minutes.

Gonna update the journal again. Im going to stay on SS for another month or so I have the Texas method book and after going through it I want to wait until I hit what they consider intermediate for my weight. 155lb press, 225lb bench, 301lb squat, 351 dead, and 217 power clean. Max press is 175 for 2 reps. Bench is at 245, squat is at 295 and dead is at 401, and power clean at 145. It's mostly my squat and power clean. Im going to work hard on getting those up, and do it all for 3x5.

Anyways...

Yesterday: August 24th

Squat: ATG
1x5x295
1x3x295
1x2x275
1x5x275

Next workout Im going to try very hard to hit 3x5x295

OH press:

1x1x175 For some reason I couldn't do another rep so I racked the bar reset it, and hit it again
1x1x175
1x3x165
1x5x155
1x3x155
1x2x155

Didn't have time for power cleans :( It takes me at least 20-15 min to finish all my sets and it was getting late and my gym was closing. A shame to I really need to get the power clean numbers up. Finished it off with Pull-ups.

Pull-ups:

1x9xBW
1x7xBW

Good workout, I need to deload on the OH presses because I've been stuck at 155 for 6-7 workouts. I did do 165 for 2 reps today and the rest were 155, but last workout I did 175 for 1 rep, and 165 for 2.:(

Squat:
Warm-up
1x5x295
1x4x295
1x1x295

Bench: deload still
Warm-up
3x5x225 easy

Deadlift:
Warm-up
1x5x385
Whats next? 1x5x405 :evillaugh: I've only done 405 for 1 rep, I cant wait and see If I can do 5. 385 for 5 reps was cake though.

Squat:
Warm-up

1x1x295
Just because I was really tired after the 315lb squats I did:
2x5x275

OH press: Deloading
warm-up
3x5x135

That was easy for me, but I think it's too close to what I do for reps I think I may lower to 115 and work back up for the deload.

Power Cleans:
warm-up
3x5x160- These are always the toughest exercise to do. I was completly sore afterwards.

Pullups:

2x8xBW

Abs:

Training not so good today. I've waited since I got out the gym Wed, for Friday because I was planning on hitting a 415lb dead for 5 reps. Well I was running late today, and got to the gym at 9:20. I didn't know that the gym closes at 10 on Friday's, I thought it was 12. I never knew because I've never been this late. I only had a chance to do squats :( Those weren't the best eathier because I didn't get to finish them, they wanted everybody out 10 min before 10pm.

Squat:
Warm-up
1x5x315
1x1x315

Brian999
09-05-2009, 12:54 AM

Good workout today about 1:30 total because some of my buddies where there and we were chatting. Decided to lower the weight on squats for the deload, because last time I did 275lbs for my deload I didn't progress too much. I'll work up from this weight now. Only deloading on squats. I like to deload one excercise at a time.

Squat:
warm up
3x5x245

OH press:
1x1x185!!! :evillaugh:
3x5x165

Switched Power Cleans for rows. I just started doing them, and I honestly like them better then power cleans. I was just sick of power cleans. I mostly decided to switch because I cant do them in the garage (when I lift there) because its a concrete floor, and the plates are metal.

Rows:
warm-up
3x5x185

Pullups:

Thanks coke, wasn't that good of a day today hit a PR on squat though. I'm glad Im done with SS and Im moving on to Texas Method.

Sqaut:
Warm-up 12x135, 5x225
1x5x315

Legs were sore not sure if thats why my DL sucked.

Bench: Wasn't felling it today VERY weak. Hopefully I can get my bench up.

Warm-up 1x10x135, 1x3x225
1x2x245
1x3x225

I was mad at myself, and since it was my last day on SS I said Fu** it and finished off 2 sets with 85lb dumbells.
2x5x85lb dumbells.

Deadlift:
warm-up 1x8x135, 1x8x225, 1x1x315
1x1x475~FAILED picked it up like 2" off the floor

1x1x435~FAILED once again. Not soo sure whats goin on here. Brought it up but I was hitching. I never hitch :(.
1x1x435
1x3x415

Honestly 415 felt tougher then ever before.

Dips:
1x15xBW
1x13xBW
1x7xBW

Not that good of a day today. I guess it was time for me to switch from SS I've been doing it for a long time. Not sure if my deadlift was effected from the heavy squats or all the volume. I've been hitting DL PR's for a while now. I think I'm just tired, and deadlifted heavy 2x a week(every other week), and squatting heavy 3x isn't working for me anymore. I hope to hit some new PR's on the Texas Method. My routine is one that Zen made for me (thanks man!) It looks like:

Squat 5x5
Bench 5x5
Row 5x5
sit-ups probably just 2 sets to failure but well see.

Front Squat 3x3
GM 2x5
OH Press 2x5
pull-ups 2 sets to failure. I can only do about 10-15.

Squat to Heavy 5
Bench to Heavy 5
DL to Heavy 5

I cant wait until Monday!

Brian999
10-31-2009, 12:22 AM
I may use dumbells for the first few weeks of Texas Method then more on to a barbell again. Only to see if that will help my bench a little.

Hit a PR on dumbell bench. My barbell definetly has to be higher by now, I hope. I wasn't feeling it today with the squats, so I did 275, and I'll just go on from there now.

I'm 5'11"-6'. I was in the 160 range a little over 1 year ago, and bulked to 230. 223lbs isn't a whole lot, but my bf is pretty high I'm sure. I'll drop to 200, maybe 190 if I can, and bulk again. I regret not eating clean, and doing cardio now.

You should try out jump rope. I pulled out my old one from high school and its a great tool. I find it much more intense and enjoyable than running for 30 minutes.

Thanks again Coke! Yeah I guess, maybe I'm just a fat a** haha, I didn't eat clean but I'm always getting compliments from people, including family. They always ask me how long I've been lifting for, and what I do. There shocked to find out I was in the mid-high 160's, and have only been lifting for 1 year. Good workout! Feeling strong in everything but the squats today even though I went through the 5x5. Maybe it's from the weight loss, but I'm still making gains on the other lifts.

About Friday, I had a lot planned I was hoping to hit some PR's, but Thanksgiving Thursday through me off. By the time I finished eating Thursday, talked, and cleaned up it was 3pm, so I stayed over at my grandfathers because it's an hour drive home. Unfortunately, today sucked.

I weighed myself this morning, and I was 218. I thought I would be over 223 considering how much I ate on thanksgiving, and all I ate afterwards. I ate like it was thanksgiving for 2 days after.

Intensity day:

Squat:
Warm-up 1x5x135 1x5x225
1x2x345 1x3x315

Bench: Wanted to attempt 270 or 275 but no spotter and I didn't want to risk it, it was Friday too, and there wasn't too many people to ask. I'm actually glad I didn't ask because I don't think I could have done it anyways.

Warm-up 1x10x135 1x5x185
1x3x250 Barely got the last 2 but I did it. I'm slow off my chest once I get 1-2" off my chest It's easy.
1x2x225

Deads: :(
1x10x135 1x5x225 1x1x315
1x1x465
1x0x465
1x0x465
1x0x465
1x0x465
I attempted 465 4 times today, I got them all to my knee besides the last one.
1x4x415

Dips:
1x10xBW
1x8xBW
1x8xBW

Dips were easier then normal, haha, I was just too tired to attempt more.

I'm not too sure what I'm going to do now. I'm losing strength on my deads, and squat. Could the lose of stregth on the deads be from not doing them for 2 weeks? I did 345 ATF but that fu**** was HEAVY. I'm happy with the way I'm leaning out though, and I had a good time wearing on old pants that wouldn't go past my thighs before. People are noticing that I'm losing weight slightly, on Wed somebody at the gym asked me If I was cutting because I have more definition, and 2 friends told me my face looks thinner. Any tips on what I should try doing? Is this routine good to use on a cut? Should I go light on the squats and deads just so I do the prescribed reps with the same weight for all of them?

Volume Day:

Lowered the weight on everything, just wanted to see where I was at. What I did do however was take minimal breaks between sets on the squats I used my phone and only took a 1 minute break. This was very tiring, I felt like I had just ran a marathon afterwards. Only did this because I can't even squat 225 for 11 reps, I'm only good at heavy singles.
