Could you do it without holding onto the bar? To give your stabilizer muscles a bit more of a workout...?

Looks... unique. :P

Let go of that handle, and sit a box behind you. Relax your hips slightly and squat up like you would with a bar on your back.

Its very similar to a regular squat. If your shoulders are super sore, or you have an injury, its perfect. Its a good deload tool.

That's a decent gym your taping this in. Is it at a school? I would like to try that machine out. My commercial gym only has the Hammerstrength Ground Squat - totally different. The following youtube video shows the harness and shrug bar set up that I started doing at home for a different type of leg workout.

This takes a little getting used to. I haven't lost interest yet. Something else to do with my shrug bar.

That's not a belt squat machine. That's just hammer strength or whomever making a knockoff

This is a belt squat machine.

With the cable pulling down in the middle it really works your lower back and hips much more than that HS version would

Dude that looks awesome, I love box squat variations.

It doesn't look that bad in principal, but in practice trying to perform a hip based movement with minimal spinal loading is always gonna be awkward. It kind of reminds me of a pull through. I'm lazy with trying new leg movements though, squats, deads, lunges and variations of those three are all I tend to perform.
