starting off, NO i did not search the stickies as this is a body building site i did not think there would be good links already in place on this topic. I know all about starting strength and it is working GREAT for me currently.
My question though is about a routine for females looking to just tone and lose a few lbs. I have some girls at work looking to get in shape for their weddings. i told them run and get on the elipitcal but does anyone have a decent NON COMPLEX weight routine they could do maybe 3 days a week?
Any help would be appreciated as i want to help them out but im not a trainer :)

Getting inshape for their weddings? I doubt they'd want to take our advice on the best way for women to get into shape. It's probably more likely that they'd just want to loose some weight so they can fit into a smaller sized dress. If that's the case, then just tell them to exercise (run/walk/whatever) a few times a week and eat less.
If they are serious about really getting into shape, then the advice is the same for women as it is for men. Heavy weights and compound movements mixed with a good conditioning program.

yeah thats what i was thinking too, but these are girls that arent going to be extremely dedicated...i just want to give them a few weight machines to make them feel like theyre doing something lol...really all they need to do is run/walk/elipitcal and eat less like you said, but they know nothing about diet and rationalize eating garbage whenver possible...and dont get me wrong i think they can, they are good looking girls that dont need to lose weight imo.

If they're not gonna be dedicated, just give them the standard diet tips for cutting and get them to be to physcially active.
If any of them are serious about getting into better shape

thats a good article.
(also search women in the bodybuilding & weight lifting forum... a ton of threads)

If they don't dedicate themselves to doing it, then nothing's going to change regardless of what you offer them. If they still want to eat the same junk, then they'll have to do more exercise to compensate. Which you already said they wouldn't be willing to do.

You control bodyweight in the kitchen, not the weight room. If you want to lose weight, drop calories - it really is as simple as that.
Doesn't sound like any of them are willing to make much of commitment to getting in shape... so why should we bother? There are a ton of routines already out there. Pick one, use it. Women aren't a different species, just a different sex. You control size via diet and strength via weights. Don't over think things and don't major in the minors.

tell them to take a look at a book called the new rules of lifting for women by lou schuler and alwyn cosgrove. if they read that and they're not convinced about the benefits of lifting, tell them have fun being fatties at their weddings

find some fitness athlete/female fitness athlete information...don't look on WBB haha :D
There are much better resources with way more informative people (even trainers willing to answer questions that professionally work with female fitness athletes).

I don't know to what degree this would help, but I had a friend who lost 50 pounds on the elliptical. She did that thing 5 times a week for 45 min to an hour. It took her about 4 months and shes still on it trying to get rid of the last 20 pounds or so. The cool thing is she found that since there is less of her... there is less to feed. So, gradually over the 4 month period she lowered her calorie intake.
