Well, Thursday's our ME-Upper Body day, and it sucks because I couldn't train today. But I will look at it as a good thing because next Thursday we plan on benching in our shirts. So hopefully I can use today to rest, and come back next week and set a PR!!!

I'm still afraid to take a heavy raw bench, 345 is the heaviest I have gone since Feburary. I was feeling a stretch on the 5th rep so I racked it, being afraid it might tear again. But I do feel like I am making it better by doing these reps.

All in all it was a good day. The two things I would of done different would be to put my belt on when I went for 695lbs for the rack pull. Right now my lower back is jacked, and tomorrow I have a chiro. appoitment. The second thing I would of done different would of been for me to make a smaller jump in weight. But I feel I have learned from these mistakes and hopefully next time I won't do the same thing again.

Well, I went to the chiro. today and I feel a little better. Im still a little tender on my left side, im just gonna put some ice on it and hopefully it will get better soon. This back injury is what caused me to stop lifting before and it also was the cause of me being able to comeback or not. Lucky for me I was able to, and I feel like I havent been playing it safe with my back. This is something im gonna have to do, if I want to be competitive in this sport.

I was planning on shirting up tomorrow, but im not sure I will be able to get setup properly. Monday it hurt pretty bad to get my feet underneath me so I can arch my back. But we will see, if I can't shirt up then I will do some heavy presses out of chains with the bar set at a 1 or 2 board.

Thanks!!! That 920lb squat was recent, I did it at the APF Senior Nationals. That's also were I did that bench and deadlift at. Right now I'm just fighting through some aches and pains.

I stopped here, I couldn't get a proper setup because of my back. I was having a hard time getting my left leg under me. This sucks, because that 475 felt good and my best reverse band is 485, I think I could of beat it today. Oh well, maybe next time!!!

That's pretty much it for today. I really wanted to shirt up, but I couldn't arch my back properly because of the pain I was feeling when I would try. So today I pretty much just went in and did a little something. It wasn't much but at least I went.

I'm sitting here at work and I'm pretty bored so I busted out my grippers from Heavy Grip and did a few sets. I did the #150 for a set of 10 reps each hand to warm up and then I did #200 for 5 sets of 4 reps each hand. I know this probably sounds pretty light but, my left hand sucks bad. I actually feel like my grip is getting stronger because before I couldn't crush the #200 with my left hand for 4 reps in a row.

Well, since im on vacation this week im not going to be training. But im looking at this as a good thing so I can let my back get better. I did bring home a KB and a green band so I can help stretch out my back. But I miss the gym already!!!!!

It's sad to say that my vacation is over and I'm back to work. It was ruff going back but it's only for 4 days and then I'm off again for another 6 days. Tomorrow I start back training again, I'm actually pretty excited about it. I'm sitting here at work thinking about what I want to do.

I haven't done speed work with bands for awhile and everything felt pretty good and strong. I wanted to add a little bit more weight but was afraid the bar speed will slow down. So I left the bar weight at 215lbs.

Chain presses
With the fat bar and the chains were also set at 3-4 board height.

One arm kettlebell presses
we did these with the ball part of the KB facing up, which of course made it alot harder.

Today was really good day, I moved my grip out a finger on my first two workouts. This is something I need to start working on, most of the time my pinkie is always on the ring.

515-1x1-Tore some skin off of both my thumbs. This really got to me and I think messed up my mental thought for the rest of the workout. I put some tape on both of my thumbs and switched to my deadlift grip.

After doing the SLD and having a crappy workout, I felt like I needed to do something big. I do believe that the box was to low and was causing me to make the lift a 2 part movement. This caused me to hold on to the bar pretty low. I felt like my arms weren't getting under the bar properly. So next time im going to put a thin bumper plate on the box and hopefully that will help.

Seeing how I never really did singles for the FP, I now set a PR at 405 and now I have something to aim for. I also havent done any raw board presses like that in a VERY long time. This is something im gonna have to bring back into my training, I really enjoyed doing them. I should of gone up in weight and maybe do a 4brd, but I had to hurry up for work so I decided to do some supersets which wore me out.

Thanks Risk, I was pretty happy with that. My heavy zercher squat wasnt the best form, so im probably good for low-mid 500 with better technique.

I am very happy with how things went today. Even though I did everything wrong when I squatted 975lbs, and still got it made me feel real good. I have got to learn how to sit back under heavy weight. This was the first time in my new squat suit, and I think it feels really good in my legs, but a little loose from the hips up. Other then that, im really happy about everything.

We just took the KB's off and just did straight bar weight to a 3brd.

Tricep Death
Im not really sure what to call these, but they do kill your triceps. We did a bar weight of 255lbs with the fat bar for 2x20. We used a 1/2brd-2brd-3brd-4brd for 5 reps each board. I only got 19 on my last set.

Tonight was our first night benching to boards with our shirts on. So I guess its safe to say that I set 3 PR's with a 605 to a 3brd...2brd...and then a 1brd. Next time we are in our shirts hopefully I will be able to break them, now that I have a number to shoot for. It took a little to get use to, but I felt good and the entire crew did really well for our first time doing them!!!

Today was a good day, I felt pretty strong and fast on the squats and pulls. I'm still working out the kinks on both. But I felt really good pulling against the monster mini's in the JSB. We are probably gonna keep doing these once a week up to our competition which is October 24th.

But of course I wasn't really motivated to train. After working out I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes and watched "Waterboy". Those were the fastest 20 minutes ever!!!

Thanks Ben, I need to get the HG250. We have them at the gym along with all kinds of other tools to do grip work. Doing grip work is actually pretty fun.

The bands are fun for speed work, they're not fun on circa max though.

Everybody is different in this kind of situation. Adding 2.5lbs a week to whatever your lifting, IMO is not high at all. It's possible that you can probably bench 200 now if your doing 150x12. But why do you want to bench every other day? As far as the deadlift goes, you can probably try to add 5-10lbs a week. But, if your gonna pull heavy all the time and try to add weight every week, you might run into a wall. Are you deadlifting every week? What is your current deadlift max?

It's an OH press, and we do them out of chains. But your not sitting on a bench, your sitting on the floor with your legs straight out. Its weird to get use to, but I like them alot. You should try them, they are bad ass!!!!

You had asked me why I bench every other day and I do that because at 51 if I let 2-4 days go my elbows & wrists don't seem to want to do their job.

Also when I was a teen back in the 1970's that how we did it in football and that's how my dad taught me probably several years before that. I had the old sears plastic weights at age 10 or 11.

What's the new conventional wisdom? Just twice a week on each body part? Also whats the best way to lose man boob fat? I had low testosterone for years and it took it's toll there when I stopped benching regularly.

We only bench twice a week, we do speed work on Monday and our max effort work on Thursday. Benching three days a week, IMO is to much. Our Monday workouts can also be considered a bench accessory day if we don't do speed work. There are ALOT of people that are only benching twice a week, with the same split having a DE and ME day.

Those Zydrunas presses are pretty bad ass, you should try them.

I was actually done after the 685 pull, I thought my tank was empty, but the bar was loaded and I said screw it I will give it a shot.

Yeah our soundtracks can get pretty crazy, but sometimes we tone it down some with Rage Against the Machine and stuff like that.

I should have some videos up soon from Thursday's ME-Upper and Friday's DE-Lower.

Nick, I'm using a METAL Double Denim that has been passed down to me. I sent it to Ginny Phillips so it would fit me better. I do feel it more in the low end then top end. I haven't tried any of the new age poly shirts, but after hearing about the METAL ACE feeling almost like a denim, I might give it a try.
I also have a brand new Inzer DD that I might send to Ginny and have her gangster it up for me just for ****s and giggles. You never know, I might like it.

No comps yet but will look for one next year, a few weeks back I did 525@210.
I have the new ace and the material is very good but it keeps your elbows in even at the top which I don't like or lift too well with.
I am going to get a shirt from overkill strength (late b'day present) as they are meant to be used with a minimal tuck.
Not sure what options to get with it yet as there are a few to choose from.
Looking forward to trying it out!

We went down to Orlando Barbell to weigh-in, and I weighed in at 236lbs. So I made weight which I had a feeling that it wasn't gonna be a problem. I have been trying to eat to put some weight on, but my nerves are getting the best of me. My openers are gonna be a 930-squat, 585-bench, and a 635-deadlift. Now it's time to rest up and get ready for tomorrow!!!! It ought to be a good meet.

I'm still sick, which I only blame myself because I never really took care of it. I just figured that the week off of resting would of made me feel better. But oh well, it's too late now to worry about it. Hopefully it doesn't show on the platform.

Today I got back to work, and it was a rough one!!!! I thought I was gonna have a great day because I was so pumped to get back to the gym. The main thing that messed me up, is that I was training a little faster then normal. Toward the end of my workout, I was breaking out in a cold sweat and felt like I was gonna throw up. But oh well, I finished what I need to and moved on.

I'm not sure what's next for me as far as competitions. I want to do the Raw Unity Meet, but I feel it's to close to the APF Florida State meet. Anyways, I'm gonna start training for one of the two, so here we go!!!

I'm not a big fan of the SSB, but I need to use it. My favorite bar to use for GM's would be a cambared bar.

Today wasnt a bad day, I went wider then normal on the speed squats which went pretty good. Our coach wasnt there today, so im not sure if I was sitting back or not. But I think I was doing ok with it, I was pretty fast off the box which is a plus. Im also trying to experiment with my deadlift suit. I carried it up in the crotch, like alot of people have said, but I wasnt getting the pop off the floor. I made the straps pretty tight as well, and the lockout was pretty fast, but it seemed like everything I tried today felt the same. Zack said my speed was fast on all the sets. Next time I do speed pulls in my suit im going to put my single-ply briefs under the suit one more time and give it a shot. The GM's felt pretty good, even though we went light. I got a good stretch on my hamstrings. All in all it was a good first week back in the gym!!!!

I had to train pretty fast today, because we are taking our kids to Sea World in Orlando. But everything felt pretty good. My elbow was bothering me before I left the house so I rubbed some biofreeze on it and it held up through the workout. I also timed my rest in between sets, and it seemed to work pretty good.

Thanks bro!!!! I was extremely happy with that squat and was not expecting it. It sucks that I have to deal with a schedule change, but since we won't be doing another meet until late Feburary of next year, I should be alright. My schedule is going to change again on Jan.1st, I think it will work out better for me. I'm sure you will figure something out with your work schedule. You got to get in when you can and get it done!!!

It does suck, especially when you don't have the right pair of shoes on. My feet were hurting a little. It sucks at work also, because I have to wear steel toes and those are not comfortable at all.

My neck and upper back are pretty sore from yesterday. I need to find out whats wrong with my elbow, it hurts when I do any type of extension.

I think its just plain elbow pain. It doesnt hurt when I do presses of any kind. But once I do a JM press or nosebreaker, it hurts and its uncomfortable. I was gonna try putting some ice on it to see if that will help at all. Like right now it doesnt hurt at all. Do you have any tips?

Get ahold of some glucosamine/chondroitin tablets, they worked well for me when I had them problems a couple of years back...took about a couple of weeks to take affect.

Thanks Tone!!! We do our Zercher Squats out of chains instead of walking them out or off of pins. All I did was drop the chains down after I did GM's and switched bars and did my Zerchers.

Yeah, those should work. I take a lot of fish oil, ice a lot, do high rep extensions, avoid heavy extensions, etc and they feel just fine

I did put some ice on it today, and it didn't really bother me. But then again I didn't train today. I'm gonna put some heat on it tomorrow and see how it feels. It only hurts when I do extensions like a JM, nose breaker, or a Tate Press. Other then that it doesn't hurt at all. Thanks for the input Nick!!!!

I'm 26 years old, we have a meet in mind but it's not until late Feburary. I need more upper back work, so I started to do more back stuff on my accessory day. I was gonna stop at the facepulls, but I haven't done chuck v rows in awhile. I'm also trying to add in some rehab exercises that might help my pec injury, that's why I do the pec-dec. I probably should cut back on some of my volume work.

Thanks Ambre!!! Yes, we do 3 week waves with bands off a box for speed. This training cycle we are adding more bands and less bar weight. I love squatting against bands, because you have to be explosive. But we dont wear our heavy gear when we do speed work, we wear single-ply gear either a pair of briefs or suit with the straps down. Lately we have been using our single-ply centurion from Titan, because their 1ply briefs have a very thin seam on the legs and it rolls over and pinchs pretty bad.

We use the fat bar for alot of our benching. I guess since we used a close grip and not a comp grip, we used the fat bar over a regular bar. I can't use my comp grip on a fat bar, it kills my wrist. Using a close grip with a shirt on is pretty tough.

nice work last week. How did it feel pulling sumo in the boss briefs? I tried it in the suit last week. Pressure is unreal, and had some form issues in the beiginning but towards the end of my workout started to feel better. Dbl blue bands r rough. My knees tend to ache a little the next day after multiple bands.

Thanks, yeah those double blue bands are rough!!!

Pulling in the BOSS briefs at first were tough, it was a little hard to get my hips down to pull. But after a few sets I was fine. I have never gone over 455 with or without gear doing sumo, so this was the first. I don't think I would be able to do a BOSS/BOSS combo.

Is that what you squat in?(boss, boss) I was told that it is a rough combo. I have been using preds under my boss for the squat, and you the boss suit alone to pull in(at least this cycle)

I just started squatting in a BOSS/BOSS combo, that meet I did last month was the first time I competed with that combo. I use to wear the BOSS briefs with a Super Centurion. I didn't find the BOSS/BOSS to be rough, but the suit wasn't tight either. It fit my legs perfect, but it's a little loose in the bib part. I also don't crank on the straps real hard either.

I have always used Titan squat gear and always had good luck with them. This is my first BOSS and I love it. I haven't used any other squats suit so I can't compare differences. I wish I had a better answer for you, on why I picked a BOSS suit over others. If I had the money I would invest in other suits so I can compare and see if there is something out that works better.

As far as it being a custom fit, no I bought a stock suit. I had to buy a size 54 because the size of my quads. So the suit fits my legs perfect, but the bib and the straps were huge. I sent it back to Ken and had some stuff altered and it fits better. I still need the bib brought in about an inch on both sides.

I would recommend a BOSS suit or BOSS briefs to anyone looking to buy 2-ply gear.

SELK, if you want a suit fast I would order it from Ken Anderson. If he has it in stock, then you will get it within acouple days.

Thanks for the info I am going to look into it. I use an ace suit now and I have no complaints with the suit, but ive been using it for years and its pretty stretched out. Its either going to be another Ace, a Boss or an Leviathan. Got to hit a 900+ squat next meet and I think any of these suits are up to the task :D

It's a size 54, I kinda just guessed at the size. My briefs are a size 48, and they are pretty tight. We figured I would order the suit big and just have it adjusted. So far I just had the side panels brought down and the straps shortened. Other then that the suit fits very comfortable. I might have the bib brought in to make it a little tighter.

I ordered it from liftinglarge because they had a 10% off sale. Never used them before, but my friend has and said they where good.

I have a pair of inzer preds that I need to get taken in that I will most likely be using under the suit. I have some ACE briefs as well but they may be to small (as well as the material too thick). I think if I get the preds taken in + grid stitched added to them it going to be a pretty good setup.

Thanks Lones, I needed that weight. It was pretty intense, I pulled for probably 10 seconds. After I locked it out I had to let all my air out, or I was going down. Then I held it for a few seconds to let myself know I had it.

Thanks Jo!!! After I missed it the first time, I sat there and said to my self WWJD???? HAHA!!! So I had to take it again, because I knew I could get it if I dig deep enough.

I'LL let you know how it goes, I'm gonna start with a 3brd and see how I feel in it and then maybe drop to a 2brd.

I was suppose to try out my newly custom fitted Karen shirt, but the sleeves were just too tight to get passed my forearms. The left side was able to get on, but the right was a bitch. I'm glad I brought both shirts in with me. So I ended up putting on my METAL and I was able to set a 3brd PR in it, so im really happy with those results.

Thanks Ben, my Metal denim was handed down to me when I got back into powerlifting. So I haven't had the chance to try out any other shirt. Just because this denim shirt has been doing very well for me. My Karins was also handed down to me, so it might be awhile before I try out another shirt. So I can't really compare it to any other shirt. But I have heard that the double ply open back super katana is similar to a denim.

I train with some guys that wear denim also. John Manly who wears a Karin benched 730 in his, and we put Zack in a DD Inzer last night and he also hit a PR on the 3brd. My last meet, I think I counted 3 people including myself that had a denim on. There aren't too many denim guys around!!! Some day I will try a poly shirt, but right now i'm gonna stick with my denim.

Alot of westside still uses denim...Dave Hoff has been using the same Karins denim since he started lifting....he said its blown a cpl times but he just has it patched and jacked up more....Tony Balogone is in one...hes in a metal denim...I guess there a little more forgiving than the karins...brian scwab still uses one...Im sure theres more....denim shirts are still good shirts
