Just for you Marcus lol.

On the last couple sets it was a tad close, but I got up there haha.

Now I wait for Brian (Tank82) and Tom Mutaffis to make me look miserable haha.

I always enjoy challenging myself with something new though. Good stuff.

I will have to give it a try this weekend...

How heavy were the dumbells in each hand? (can't watch video on this computer)

Travis Bell
07-23-2009, 03:54 PM
75's on the first set, 80's on the second set

I'd like to work up to the 100's, but that may take a little time.

I'm not sure to be honest with you. I've never tested it. Never really been much of a jumper until this past summer when I began focusing on my box jumps.

LOL with those 80's in my hands I was like I'd better get on top of this box or this is gonna hurt bad. Fear is a good motivator.

Nice work Travis! It looks like I have to start using the fat bar dumbbell handles, so I can go heavier. The 32kg KBs are the biggest we have.

LOL thug lyfe playa.

I never listened to rap before I trained at Westside. It just kinda grew on me

Post it up then! Sometimes it's fun to do stuff that doesn't necessairly have to do with bench performance but rather athletecism.

Nice! I think my next box is 32", but if I jump off a couple mats, that'd bring it to the equivilent of 30".

I'm off all next week though so it'll have to wait until I get back.

I watched the video, looked pretty easy for you Travis.

Am curious about what I could do here. Might have to try it this weekend if I can find a place with plyo boxes or something else to jump on...

haha, I never knew I could be a trendsetter in powerlifting. Who knew box jumps were the key! Watch Travis go to the pro-am and smoke his 800+ bench. Then all the bench only guys will start doing box jumps!

Actually I am not wondering at all I am 280 plus right now. Enough said.

Marcus I tell you what if Box jumps help Travis smoke a 800 plus I know one will be more happy for travis than I. And no that won't make me start doing them.

Are you guys finding any carryover from box jumps to your squat or deadlift?

its a good warmup, we don't do them often enough to gauge carryover.

more likely the box jumps are an indicator rather than a strength builder.

I take close to the same stance as my conventional deadlift when I do a box jump. I'm very explosive off the floor on deadlifts.

box jumps would be an indicator of what? explosiveness off floor, overall strength level?

I did them today. IDK what would be considered good here. And I dont know if they have any carryover to pulling. My best pull is 625.

I jumped on a 20" box holding the 70's for 2 sets of 3 jumps. I weigh 305 today. Is that considered good? I dont know? I think I could have jumped with the 80 or 85...I was still 3" over the box or so. I will get a vid next time....it was cool. I liked going to do something athletic, rather than just some back stuff lol

My hips and legs are sore, but I dont know if its from jumping or from the belt squats I did..

Yeah they are a good indicator is all. I do them purely because I can. That is all LOL

Yeah they are a good indicator of explosiveness off the floor, or hip explosiveness. I suppose it could be used as a way to train the fast twitch fibers but DE work is probably going to be much much more effective.

Nice work on the jumps Paul!

I agree, it was fun to do something just for the sake of it being an athletic challenge.

took 24kg KBs to 30" box today.
missed 32kg KBs to 30", got them to 28" though.

then jumped w/o weight to a 45.5" box tying a PR.

tried 50", missed.

video will follow

What do you think about him using your 50 inch box height to jump to Ben?

Very impressive isaku, I don't know if I'd have the balls to try that 50" box.

I tried the weighted jumps today just to test them out with 50's each hand onto a bench (about 18"). They definitely require some good explosive power and something you really have to commit to.

Might give it a shot with some heavier weight one day this week.
