Does anyone have any good info on the differences between these? I'm a bit concerned about fish oil due to lack of knowledge about where the fish come from, what kinds, etc. These days water contamination can be a problem, so I'm just thinking around here.

I believe fish oil is omega-3 and flax is omega-6. Its just different fats. If you're concerned then get the fish oil from atlarge nutrition website. Just the other day I had my first fishy burp and it tasted like 100 dollar caviar.

Built wrote about it somewhere but I can't seem to find it. It boils down to something like this though:

Fish oil has EPA and DHA as active components in it. Flaxseed and flaxseed oil have ALA which needs to be converted to EPA in the body before they can have the desired effect.

This conversion process requires that in order to get the same EPA of a 1g fish oil capsule you'd need to consume between 5g (a teaspoon) and 158g (2/3 of a cup) of flax oil.

ALA->DHA conversion efficiency in men is ~7%, women it's ~14. Flax can F-up your prostrate.

Flax can F-up your prostrate.

That was the consensus, I just read a recent study that suggests this is no longer the case.

fish burps are more common when supplementing with the caps than the liquid. The amount of 'burps' i get after switching over to the liquid has been dramatically reduced. I rarely get them. In addition, the liquid is more convenient for me as I can take higher amounts w/ease. Plus the orange enhances the dullish taste and awkward consistency of fish oil nicely!

The conversion rate of flax makes it a ****ty source of omega 3. Your body has to convert it, with fish oil it is ready to go. Fish is much better then flax.
