Yeah, they are really popular for wide stance squatters, and yes get the hi-tops.

I wear Adidas Sambas, although, you can't go wrong with Chucks either.

I wear chucks for deadlifting and have a pair of older safe brand squat shoes, they were a gift to me and are amazing.

Just get regular hightop chucks. Extra high won't do anymore for you and also you won't look so funny wearing them ;).

I wear chucks for squatting (wide stance). For deadlifts I use an old pair of water shoes as they are lower to the ground then the chucks, not by much, but every bit makes a difference.

Please explain then - They are flat and don't have padding. So what's wrong with them??

I'm not sure what DC skate shoes look like, but I'm quite positive that they aren't nearly as stylish as Chucks, for the fashion-minded powerlifter.:)

I actually have a pair of these that I use for squatting and used to use for all of my overhead pressing. As long as they are not the models with air bubbles or anything the DC's are actually good for training.

Chucks are probably your most popular option, along with wrestling shoes (good for deadlift as well).

Personally I use olympic weight lifting shoes - they give you a solid footing and have a raised heel which makes it easier to hit depth.

I have old school chucks that I use to squat and pull. But I'm wondering how beneficial a squat shoe would be. I have noticed that my achillies are very sore and tight and I have a small lump on the back of my left achillies.

Yes they have padding... Try a couple sets barefoot or in chucks or in olympic squat shoes and I guarantee you'll feel the difference.

I have a pair of adidas goodyears, work great except I have really wide feet so it took a long time to break them in and for them to stop hurting, its a very narrow shoe. But the bottom is really flat and gives a good base, just wish it was wider.

I wear a pair of low top chucks. I'm looking for a pair of black on black high top chucks in a 13 and then I will be wearing them. Is there a big difference between low and high tops when it comes to squatting or deadlifting?

to reinstate: chuck's or barefoot. sneakers/running shoes with air/gel filling impair power transfer & stability due to the compressible soles. Save your running shoes for when you're, well, running (e.g. HIIT).

Me too! Expensive but I got them as a gift. Plus I focus on Olympic now and again to mix it up and keep myself interested and the shoes definitely help there--you gotta get LOW.

I like Vans high-tops. Same concept as Chucks- thin, flat sole with ankle support- but with much sturdier construction. Chucks are prettty flimsy. I had a pair of chucks once for squatting. The laces got knotted up once when I was in a hurry to change clothes. I yanked the laces thinking the lace would break, but instead, the whole upper of the shoe ripped in half.

I bought a pair of Do-Wins for weightlifting a couple years ago during a shirt-lived weightlifting phase. The have a huge heel (alittle higher that on the Adistars) and they look pretty cool too. While I loved them for weightlifting and they were pretty good for light squats, they were downright dangerous for heavy squatting.

I have the adistars not the do-wins but I have never heard a Olympic shoe called dangerous for squatting. As I squat in them alot I am interested in why you say this. I feel very stable in mine...what makes you say that they are dangerous?

I felt like was on my toes real bad on the way down and when I came up I would overcorrect and fall backwards at the top- not a good feeling. I remember working up in these one session. I fell backwards with 496, then fell back wards with 606, and then I unracked 717 a couple times and just could not get it set up right enough to squat it.

These might be great squat shoes for someone- but not me!

I fully agree I have been looking to get these in a 13 for the last month or so. I will have them before my meet.
