View Full Version : What happened to Tuna!?

I use to eat a TON of tuna and took a break from it. I started adding 1-2 cans a day into my diet again, and...I was looking at it today (a can) and it comes out to 22g protein for the entire can? 2 servings in the can of 11g of protein? I'm not that anal, but I could have sworn when I use to have a can it was like 30+ protein, which is what I usually aim for in a meal.

Did they make it smaller? What did they change? Or am I just losing it!?

Im looking at a can of Clover Leaf Chunk Light Tuna. 120cal, 1g fat, 30g protein per can.

Can is 120g drained. 170g net.

It may be your can is smaller.

Just looked at my no name can of tuna.

Same size as can listed above, but it has 120cal, 1g fat, 26g of protein per can.

I've noticed the same recently here (in Australia), I think the put more sauce/water in and less tuna, so its the same weight, but less content.

From the quality brand to the no name brand I notice a slight difference in the ingredients. The no name one has vegetable broth, as the other doesnt.

When gasoline got really expensive last year, they made the cans smaller (5oz instead of 6oz) to offset the costs of shipping. Probably more water too, as mentioned already. AND they raised the price about 10 cents here. Bastards! Some brands are still 6oz though. And albacore is still more protein (and mercury).
