View Full Version : 5x3x1 bench next week

Hey guys I just reached my goal of a 5x5 at 215lb. Couldn't of completed a 6th set with 5 reps, meaning I was pretty damn drained.

I'm interested in switching to a 5x3x1 cause I never do sets with as little as 3 reps, and never do just one rep.

I weigh Approximately 200lbs. The thing that scares me the most is wasting time on a chest day so I want to plug the right numbers in here.

If i can do a 5x5 @215 what do you think my 5x3x1 numbers should be? At least to start and accomplish something. thx

I would try 5x3 and keep adding weight. If you are referring to the 5/3/1 method it does not work like that.

I thought it was 3 sets. 5 reps, 3 reps, 1 rep. Increasing weight accordingly.
5x3 has always been an option as well.

Buy Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 book if you are interested. This book lays out all of the details on how to set-up this kind of program and its an e-book, which means you will have it as soon as you pay for it. I believe there was also an article on T-nation not too long ago that gave a pretty good outline of the program.

Definitely not what I thought. Apparently got some wrong information.
5x3 should probably be my next step before switching to a full program this advanced. thanks for ur help

5x3 sounds like it would help you make some progress for now. Eventually you will stall and have to move on to something a little more advanced, but I would keep doing this kind of program until the progress stops.
