I had a great time competing against the top 220 lifters in the usa. The venue was the best I have seen in my 15 years of competing. The meet director did a great job!!

220 Open Results:
1. Tim Anderson - 622
2. Mike Ferrantelli - 551
3. Derek Brixius - 479
4. JT Hall -468
5. Clint Poore
6. John Pfeiffer

I tried to figure out why I missed 562 because I did it pretty easy last year at the same meet. The only conclusion was the I didn't adapt quickly to the fast flight. As soon as I did my unequipped opener and got my shirt on. I was 3rd out. The weight just didn't feel right. I think the quick flight affected three other lifters because two bombed with weight they have done before. Also, there were more missed attempts in our short flight than made attempts. Positive note: I did get a record and the top unequipped ranking.

Do you warmup in your shirt at all at meets? Or do you just do your raw opener and then throw it on? You are very strong JT, and you have been doing this for a long time. I suck at benching, but I am a powerlifter who has competed in gear many times. I think you would easily be into the mid-600's very soon if you focused more on your shirt and went to the meet and opened up in your shirt. You have explained that you like to go to meets and open up raw and you have never bombed. I just think maybe you should do a raw meet for that if you want and at least give yourself a better 3 attempts in the shirt. Just my opinion.

Your raw bench is very good, but I think your shirt carryover is terrible for such an experienced bench-only lifter. I think you are probably a lot stronger of a bencher than most guys you compete against. I guess it all boils down to what you want most. Please don't take any of that personally, just throwing it out there. Good luck at your next meet JT!

I don't warm up in my shirt. I think I will make that change in 2010. I will compete at a local meet first and see what happens. Thanks for the tips!

I was shocked that I couldn't lock it out the same weight that I did last year at the same meet. I plan to take 3 attempts in my shirt in 2010.

Thanks a lot!

It was frustrating because I wanted so much more. Let me see how my body feels after the Ky Regional Championship. Then, I'll make a decision about the Wv meet.

Thanks a lot!

First congrats and great lifting...I agree with Chris...had you did just one warmup in your shirt prior to that lift you nail it...at meets I try to mimic my training...so I only lift raw to 275...put on the shirt and warm up with 315, 365, 405, 455..then I open with 500-525...since I have been concentrating more on shirt work I'm getting around 175lbs out of my single ply Rage X..I really think you'll see greater results changing up just a bit..good luck..

I'm going to make some major changes in 2010. I know I am a lot stronger than this. Thanks a lot!
