19 years old, 6' tall. Have lifted on and off in the past, got serious about 3 months ago, but didn't have my diet in check until now. Currently dirty bulking, consuming nothin but bako shakes, whole milk, cottage cheese, tuna melts, and mac n cheese. Looking for some good strength gains and to hit 180 lbs.

I bought some jack3d and it definitely helped. Weekend drinking isn't helping my weight gains but I'm gonna try and get a little stricter about getting my calories in before pregaming starts.

it's just starting strength. i'd go to something more complex but i'm still seeing gains. i'd definitely recommend it though.

Deadlifts are infinitely harder for me both physically and mentally..I don't really know what the deal is. I'm hoping I can progress past 185 next workout though. Any advice?

Really happy with this workout and to finally hit 170. That extra 5lbs to the deadlift felt like 50 lbs, but I'll keep going at it.

Thanks! I have tried power cleans and I'd like to implement them instead of rows at some point. But for now I'm content with what I'm doing. They're definitely a sweet exercise though.

Haha Off Road I can definitely smell it. Hopefully I'll hit it sometime next week! As for those deadlifts, I really think my form started to suffer when I jumped past 185. I think I may deload and work on my form.

hey bro you ever think of using a mixed grip on your deads if u don't already use one? It helped me lift more weight- it doesn't work your grip as much, but definitely allows you to pull more weight (at least a lot of people i've spoken to)

yeah i do use a mixed grip. i really think it's just my form. no one ever really taught me how to do a deadlift; i've just watched videos online and tried to imitate their movements as efficiently as possible. hopefully i can get it down tomorrow. any advice on ways to improve DL form would be helpful...sucks I can't post up a video or something.

I was pissed cuz the bench felt easy til after I was done and realized I forgot to add on the 2.5's that woulda made it 140 lol. Deadlift still feels like its hindering my form so i'm gonna lower it even more and work back up. As for that squat, felt good to finally be pushing double plates :)

The press can be a hard thing to progress on. I'd suggest dropping the bar dips and see if you can get the press moving again. Doing more isn't always better. Sometimes doing less is just what you need. Try it and see...it's worth experimenting with for a few weeks.

1. That's why my rows were so high; I was counting the bar as 45 like a barbell. I edited my journal as such.
2. Squats and bench felt really good today.
3. I tried a wider stance for deadlift. I'm a taller, lankier guy, and it felt a lot easier/comfortable with this stance. Hope to see the #'s go up with it finally

Gonna really try and make the push to 180 now. I stopped taking my bako shake for a few weeks and my weight still maintained at around 170, so I'm hoping that adding it back in again will do the trick.

First time squats really felt tough to the point where I was concerned about the bar making it to the rack. As for the bench, I accidentally threw on 10's instead of 5's for my increase in weight, so I kind of struggled with that 10lb increase on the first set. Haha.

This was honestly one of the worst workouts I've ever had. Squats I couldn't even get parallel; bench I needed to be spotted halfway up on all three sets for the last few reps, and I honestly can't remember what weights/reps I ended up doing. Not sure what the cause was, but I'll brush it off and hope for a better workout next time. It's looking like deloads might be in order soon.

You are getting twards the top. Make sure you are getting extra calories and enough rest. You could also drop the chin-ups and any extra stuff you might be doing. Try milking the gains as long as you can, this is GROWING TIME :)

I honestly don't track my calories. I preach to people in the bodybuilding section to track your calories, yet I don't do it myself :tuttut: I just eat as much as I can, and then eat a bit more. I slacked off a little bit once I hit 170, but I'm hoping after this long break I can get back into the swing of things. It's actually a lot easier in college than back home for some reason.

In terms of body fat, I have about an inch around my belly if I pinch it. It's more than I used to have, but I'm still around 10%. Need to get ahold of some calipers one of these days.

Good luck on your workout...do you have a journal yet?

You could always do what I did. I planned out a very basic eating plan with meals on Fitday. Then I use that as a "minimum" each day. So, my breakfast/lunch/dinner are always [basically] the same and guarantee I get the macros I need. Anything I add to it is a bonus :)

Breakfast= a couple of eggs, turkey sausage, oatmeal
Lunch= sandwich with wheat bread, 10 slices of lunch meat, and cheese with fruit
PWO= protein shake
Dinner= meat and veggies
Desert= cottage cheese and nuts

Now I can add whatever I want, like potatos, rice, extra meat, etc.

My original goal was 180...then when I hit 170 I kind of slacked off as far as keeping up with excess calories, especially once winter break started. I've just started getting back in the swing of things and my current goal is 180.
