My last squat workout before my Raw/Classic Meet on the 17th went very well! I hit a raw PR 650 on my last squat of the night. This is new ground for me 'cause' I'm mostly an equipped lifter and train that way most of the time as well. I did a real easy 600 (where I plan to open) and then the 650. It was a little tough coming out of the hole but finished easy. I plan to do the 650 for a second and 'play it by ear' on the 3rd. Anywhere from 672 to 705 I'm guessing...we'll see! So far the biggest over 50 raw squat I've found on record is 600. I'll be 54 in January. I should weigh in near the top of the 275s.

Nice work! Do you do anything at all in the week before?

Wow, that's awesome Monster... you give a lot of hope that my squat can continue to increase at 44... I'm over 500, but the lbs seem to come real slow now...

GL on the comp... sounds like 700 is going to be in your future..

What meet are you competing in? Hell of squat for an old man.

Thanks! Usually I don't do anything heavy the week of the meet. Only a real light push/pull session to get some blood in the muscles on Wed. But I'm going to do a bench session Mon. to stay on track with my partner. Up to my opener. Since it will be raw and no shirted weights I think I'll be O.K. with it.

Thanks Bob! I came back into powerlifting at about 44. I was 45 when I did my 1st full meet after that (a few bench and deadlift meets 1st). I squatted 600 in groove briefs and a 1 ply hardcore suit. I was probably no more than 500 raw at that point (probably less). So, you're ahead of me at 44 and a lot of time to climb!

Not to many people can squat 650 raw especially at the young age of 53!!! Most guys that age would break in half with that kind of weight on their back.

Thanks everybody! I only feel like I'm going to break in half when I suit up and stand there waiting to squat with 900+! LOL! Probably because I'm not quite 5'10" and pretty thick in the middle. LOL! (Chuncky) It would take a lot of breaking to snap through 40 inches...when I suck it in real good!

I'm pretty happy with where my squat and bench are at this point in life. My problem is I'm a 'little' deadlift guy! Meet best are 600 raw and 622 suited. I'm nervous if I'm not 100 lbs. or so ahead going into deads! I've got some left hand grip issues.
