Hi guys. Just bought my self a slow cooker and am unsure of what to cook! So I was wondering what do you cook in your slow cooker? And with what flavours/vegetables etc.

I just threw in 2 skinless chicken breasts (browned in a fry pan first), 50ml of smokey bbq marinade, 1 chopped up clove of garlic and about 300ml of water all mixed together. Don't know how it'll go but I'll find out in about 7-8 hours.

I'll mainly use mine for chicken breasts and the odd roast chicken. This way I can cook 8-10 chicken breasts at once which will be 3-4 days of lunch and dinner.

Thanks, Mick.

One of the best recipes ever...

add the following to the slow cooker in this order:

1 can corn
1 can black beans
3 good sized chicken breasts
some diced jalapenos if you like a little spice
some fajita seasoning (you can get a packet in most grocery stores)
1 jar chipotle salsa or your favorite salsa...I like the darker kind

Cook on low for 8 hours, shred the chicken with two forks when about at the 6-7 hour stage (doesn't really matter when just sometime after 6 hours, you could do it right before you eat if you want). Put it in a tortilla, add some cheese and some sour cream and you are good to go. Tastes great by itself as well.

Enjoy

A 1/4 cup garlic powder sounds like a lot, is that correct?

Try soaking the breats in a brine solution first Mick. But really, the faster you can cook them the better! 15-20 minutes in the oven tops.

Thanks mate Ill have a go. I just wanted to cook them in the slow cooker so I could cook the breasts whole. If I cook them in the oven I usually have to chop them in half first to thin them out so they cook evenly

I used johnnyo's pork shoulder recipe above except I did it for 12 hours on medium in the apple juice/stock combo, drained it, pulled it, added BBQ sauce, balsamic vinegar and some leftover stock and blasted it for another 3 hours on medium. Tremendous and super simple.

Part of todays lunch....

-I put a leg of lamb in the crock pot; let it sit for 6-7 hours. At this point you should be able to shred the lamb with a fork and a knife with no effort.

-Heat up some torillas

Add:
- sour cream
- Mango Salsa
- Cheese

shredded lamb tacos with mago salsa. It's amazing.

Not a slow cooker receipe but takes about an hour to cook in oven. If you have a glass oven dish, use it.

Place boneless/skinless chicken breast in glass oven dish. Season both sides of chicken liberally with Garlic Powder and Cajun seasoning. Cover dish with foil, place in oven at 350 degrees and cook 45 minutes to one hour depending on the size of the breast (I'm usually cooking 3, one for each of us). Normally I cook for 45 minutes, but they only get more tender the longer you cook, so one hour does not hurt them. The chicken practically falls apart and the flavor is awsome.

I think I'll try it tomorrow as you've outlined though.

Every weight lifter needs a slow cooker! Save time, save money, and eat!

Pulled pork is great. Pork rub or any other seasoning. Place pork roast inside for 4-5 hrs. Cook on low. At the last 10-15mins pour on bbq sauce. Then pull the pork with hands. Place in bun with lettuce, tomato, etc. Yummy. Easy. Cheap.
