It is going to be standard weight from the floor; not sure about straps but I would say that if they are going to have an 800 lbs frame deadlift in the medley they will probably allow them. Scott (Promoter) is big on 'no straps, no hitch' so you never know.

My best pull is 685 lbs at a little under 210 lbs with a suit. I also hit 655x2 with just a belt and straps at 215-220 lbs.

Is that just for this contest or has the entire LW class cut off for NAS increased to 242?

This event is not NAS sanctioned; the NAS LW class is still 105 kg.

The promoter wanted to be flexible with the weight class limit so that less of the LW Pro's and other competitors would have to cut as much weight (since most of them do), and to allow some of the smaller LW's to bulk up so that we could handle the heavier weights.

Tom, Scott Porter is also running a NAS sanctioned event the same day.. http://www.nastrongmaninc.com/upcoming/upcoming_item.asp?UpcomingID=508
I was thinking about competing in this one, until I pulled my hamstring again saturday. Though, this one is very minor and I suspect in 2 weeks with massages to breakup scar tissue I should be good again.. I'll have to play it by ear.

has this big one been cancelled?

The Lighweight (110kg) athletes are still the headliners for this event, though other (NAS sanctioned) classes have been added.

Here is a recent email from Scott:

"Athletes-

Greetings to all of those who have expressed interest in the first Arizona
Strongman Invitational scheduled for Saturday May 1st in Scottsdale, Arizona.
My name is Scott Porter and I'm a Lightweight Professional strongman with ASC as
well as the Arizona State Chair for NAS. The idea for this contest arose
because of three things: 1) to give back to the top LW strongman athletes, 2) to give to a local charity, and 3) to throw another badass Arizona strongman contest.

I'll be real with everyone. This contest is primarily for the 110kg guys. The
weights will be the biggest in history for an American contest for LW's. The
competition will be the best yet. And these guys are THE SHOW. All 110kg guys
hotel rooms will be comped. Each guy will be paired up with another so if you
have a request to room with someone (like Barabas) you need to let me know.
However, this is not to say that the other athletes will be forgotten by any
means. If you have been to an AZ contest then you know we put on a good show.
And we have even more in store this year. The women's division is getting a lot
of interest from top notch competitors. There will also be a
police/fire/military and novice division mostly to get interest from local
competitiors. We also have an open category. The cap is set to 40 total (with
20 cap being 110kg) athletes so please get your entries turned in a timely
manner to guarantee your spot. I have a lot of verbal commitments but need
those entry forms!

Each competitor will get 1 contest t-shirt. If your entry is received on time,
your last name will be in large text on the back. More t-shirts will be
available for purchase at the contest. All athletes must wear the contest shirt
on every event with the exception of stones. T-shirt purchases will be donated
toward charity and/or cash prizes.

Awards will consist of trophies for top 3 and possibly something extra for the
110kg guys. There will be an after party at the venue as well. The day after
the contest there is a dodgeball tournament at the venue that brings in a huge,
fun crowd and has cash prizes for the winning team. So if you have a late
returning flight you might want to check that out.

There will be plenty of forthcoming information as the time nears the date of
the contest. Please reply or call me if you plan on sending out an entry. Any
questions can be answered via email. Attached is the entry form.

Thank you,

Scott Porter"

wow, that looks awesome..

I need to see how my leg is feeling next week, but I might enter just for the fun and experience. The mens open weights are pretty light and would be a good first competition for me, but that depends on how well my leg is healed. I'll probably have an answer for that next week.

Glad to see you're still coming though, can't wait to check out all the LW pros..
