He is a powerful young man; it says in the description that he is trying for 500 lbs before the end of the year.

That's very good. I assume he missed the jerk and that is why the video cut off?

In the comments they mention he was about to try it, but he was only doing cleans that day and thought it might be a bad idea to go for it cold.

If you look in other videos, they taped a 700back squat no belt, 600 front squat, as well as a 400 snatch among other things. Scary thing is he's not the only crazy young talent in their gym. "Weightlifting mecca for a new generation"... sounds about right.

He's really good, wonder if we'll see him in the Olympics in 2012.

Someone else mentioned Pat Judge when I told them about this video. It sounds like there are some good up-and-coming HW's out there.

Hopefully he decides to stick with OLY lifting. You would think for someone with a lot of power and strength at that age they might be better off in football or even throwing (scholarships).

Mendes was a high school football player who got into oly lifting through that so it's safe to say he's not going anywhere. That's where his potential lies.

That kid is a BEAST. It always blows to mind to think that guys can take the weight I use as a max deadlift and so easily just pop it up to their shoulders.
