Well this was my goal since I got into powerlifting this year was to pull 700 raw in the 220 weight class. Yesterday I got it at the AAPF Illinois Raw Power Challenge. I went for 711 for my third lift and I really believe that I'm strong enough to do it but I was out of gas and let the bar get too far out in front of me and just couldn't lock it out. I got 567.5 squat without knee wraps which is a PR for me as well and got a 331 bench. Bench was not impressive I know, but I tore my pec last year and i'm being cautious with it... especially since it was really cold in the building we were lifting in and I didn't want to chance it. Unfortunately, Eric Lillibridge wasn't as fortunate as me and I think he tore his hamstring on his 3rd deadlift attempt with 810 lbs. Eric is a great guy and I got to talk to him quite a bit. He's a beast and will be a big name in powerlifting. I didn't realize it but he was actually up right next to me on 711 lbs rooting me on which was really cool of him. I hope he heals up quickly and is back on the platform soon.

lifts were:

Squat
1- 507
2- 551
3- 567.5

Bench
1-314
2-331
3-Pass

Deadlift
1-644
2-700
3-711 (no good)

Congrats Layne. It was good meeting you yesterday, your intensity on the platform is awesome. That was too bad about Eric, that kid is such a beast, hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Hey Pete, it was great to meet you as well. I actually mistook you for Eric at first, I guess you can't really tell what someone looks like off a video LOL.

Thanks for the compliments. I heard a few people laughing at me but oh well, I do crazy stupid **** to get amped up but hey, gets the job done and I have fun :)

Huge pull, congrats ! Hook grip with that much weight is pretty crazy too, how long did it take to get comfortable using it?

thanks! well except for my bench which is pretty much nonexistant LOL. But in my defense I do not want to tear my pec again and it was probably 55 degrees in that building and did not want to chance going super heavy in that enviroment lol

Yo I pulled right behind you on the second deadlift attempts. Good lifting. I think everyone was feeling the cold, with the injuries and whatnot - I had a real hard time just staying warm between attempts.

That really is an amazing deadlift, but your raw squat is pretty damn impressive too - I love to see lifting like this!

yea. I was walking around a ton trying to stay warm. It was crazy lifting in there when all the audience had like winter coats on. Felt like one of those strongman events in iceland LOL

thanks, I wish I had a video of the squat. I really think I could have done more, but this was my first time ever using a texas squat bar and I wasn't used to the thickness of it (used to a thin bar) so I went conservative. It was a good thing too because on my 3rd attempt it rolled up onto the middle of my traps when I started to come up and damn did that hurt!

Yeah very awesome. Your explosion off the floor is amazing. 711+ will be coming very soon! Just alittle more lockout strength and your there!!

Sick pull, I think if your toes were a little more out on your 711lb deadlift and your legs a little narrower, like you had them on the 700 you would have had and smoked that lift. Great speed and explosive strength and hook grip is always impressive.

Congratulations on your 700lb deadlift!!

700 has always been a goal of mine and I'm still striving for it.

That was a very nice lift.

Thanks man but not that day, I was done. I was so mentally and physically drained (I had just given my phd exit seminar the previous week) and I just had zero steam

I'll get it next time

Thanks Travis but I'm not done yet I still have to do my private defense in front of a panal of professors. When that is over I'll graduate in may then I will officially have my PhD

as hard as my pursuits in bodybuilding and powerlifting have been, nothing has come close to phd work... Just insanely challenging.
