Here's the deal....

I want to bulk. I am doing SS right now and enjoying the gains already(it's only been 2 weeks). On day one of the program, I weighed in at 146lbs and I am 5'8". I have been trying to take in excess calories and drink as much whole milk as I can(sometimes I adhere to GOMAD). Anyway, my strength gains are encouraging and I am starting to gain some weight as well. My only problem is I play A LOT of Basketball and I am most likely burning off more calories than I should be. I am trying to eat enough to take care of that but I think I might need the help of a supplement. Anyway, since I am still in the beginning of my training, I thought it would be wise to start a journal. Please feel free to help me out with anything as I am a newbie when it comes to the weight room. Thanks.

Today was the first workout that seemed pretty tough. My last sets on squats and bench seemed pretty challenging.. I didn't have a spotter and thought about asking someone. I probably will have to have a spotter from now on.

Loving the SS program...It's only been 2 weeks and I feel much stronger. My physical appearance has not changed too much, I notice that my arms look bigger and I feel like my back is a tiny bit wider. Every off day I am bummed and can not wait to get back in the weight room.

I have gained 4lbs so far. Not too bad but I know that I am not getting nearly enough calories a day. I play way too much basketball. I have decided to supplement my diet with some whey isolate protein. This should help me to get the calories I need.

Anyway, today I struggled a bit at the gym...Squats were pretty tough, OH press was hell( I wasn't able to increase) I feel that this whole SS program is starting to really kick into gear and I am loving it. Keep in mind, I felt a bit sick today but here are my numbers:

1/17/10 Sunday Session 8
Workout B

S-165
OHP-1x5 85, 2x5 80-->same as last B session)
Row-100
Tri dips-bw 3x5

i would also suggest you to consider to increase the rest times.. there are some good herbs that i have tried like Withiania Somnifera AKA ashwagandha.. it worked great for me to increase my appetite... just try it out..

Gotta get a lot of calories for SS to really work its magic. Any idea of how many you're getting? As far as adding calories are doing GOMAD?

I'm trying to do GOMAD.. I just end up getting the runs after I have so much. I think I might need to start taking lactaid or something to help me out. Anyway, as far as counting calories, I am not. I am waiting till I am more organized and consistent with my meals. I am going shopping tomorrow and will probably start keeping track soon. Also, I am going to start supplementing my diet with whey protein to help get add calories.

Being lactose intolerant in any way is no joke, I have that problem too but it could be worse. There are ways around it though the Lactaid milk can be expensive. Good luck gaining weight and becoming more massive.

Great workout today--I felt like a beast*

*Real weightlifting beasts, please don't laugh at my numbers.

Workout A:

s-175
bp-135(felt really easy and this used to be the most I have ever benched)
dl-155

Pullups 1xfailure, 2x6
calf raises 3x10,2x5 105 (not all in one sitting)

Only bad thing(which was good to me but bad for SS and bulking):
Lot's of basketball after I worked out...I play pretty much everyday but today was heavy.

Today I ate really well--apple and milk for breakfast, banana and energy drink pre-workout,fish squash and potatoes and milk after workout and again for dinner. About 5.5 liters of water throughout the day. Needed more milk but am scared of the stomach issues its been giving me.

Is that all you ate? Did you start with the Lactaid? Get the pills they are cheaper than the Lactaid brand milk. Great job on the workout and keep pushing the food.

Exellent lifting progress so far. Try harder to eat good. You don't want to miss out on the size gains that could come along with the strength gains. Get some meat/protien at every meal and a few snacks. Buy cans of tuna and snack on it if you have to.

I cracked the 200 mark today!

haha, I know this is a warm up weight for most of you, but I did working sets of 205 today for squats. Which is cool bc I started at 95. Anyway, here is today's entry:

Workout B Session 12 1/27/10

S-205

OH Press-working sets:1x5 90,1x3 90,2x4 80 (couldnt do anymore at 90)

Rows-105 <-- worked with a trainer today, I def. wasn't getting the most out of this exercise before.. after improving my form today 105 was a lot tougher but I felt like I got a much better workout. Also, he worked with me on power cleans so hopefully in a couple of weeks ill switch rows to cleans.

Wow.. I really got off track and haven't been posting on my journal..

Here is a quick recap:

On Friday 2/5, I hurt my knee playing basketball so I took a week off of the normal SS routine because I didn't want to squat or dead lift. Instead I bench pressed(flat, incline, decline) and curled and did a lot of pull ups/dips..

On Saturday 2/13 I went back to the normal routine
