Hey everyone, I haven't been on here in forever!!

Well, this is my last year of highschool powerlifting, and so far I have had 2 meets. I won 1st place, and outstanding lifter in both meets. I have 2 meets left, then regionals. I have qualified for regionals in the 114 weight class, but I am trying to drop to the 105 weight class, and I have two weeks to do it. Any advice on how to lose about 7lbs without starving myself??

Now for my 2nd question,
I SUCK at bench. Im not sure why, but I do. I work on my chest as much as my legs and back, but for some reason, its not showing. I have hit 145 during practice, but I have never passed 120 at a actual meet. Should I try wrist wraps?? I have used them once, and I hated it. Any advice?

Thanks!

I usually have to lose about the same, somewhere between 5-7lbs. All I do is cut out simple stuff as far as sodas, and my late night snacks. I also won't eat as much as I normally would, but I'm also not starving myself. This usually does the trick for me. You can lose that 7lbs easy, I wouldn't worry about that being a problem.

Do a lot of tricep stuff for bench. Try doing heavy DB bench after you bench then tricep extensions.

Losing 7lbs really depends on your diet and body comp at the current moment. Tricep stuff will help your bench and the wrist wraps may help if wrist strength is becoming an issue when getting into heavier weights. Goodluck @ your Regionals. I remember competeing back in HS ahhh the good ol days.

Well, I did horrible at my meet yesterday. I only got my openers on squat and bench.. Im not sure why. Just wasn't a good day! Im not sure how, but I still won first place. I weighed in at 110.2. I have two weeks to hit 105.5. Wish me luck!

Did you open too heavy?

You are actually very strong!

As for the bench it may be partly a mental thing, I used to have it in my head that I was no good at benching but once I became more confident and started to enjoy it I made big gains.

Rear delts, lats and traps help as much as triceps, pecs and shoulders espcially in the long run.

Good luck!

It's much easier to drop 7lbs when you weigh over 200lbs vs. 110. That's 6% of her body weight so it might be pretty hard to do in the time frame.

No, not really. I opened with 245, max is 270. Coach said we were going for a squat PR. I got my openers as my last attempt on squat and bench. HORRIBLE.. Coach told me to lower the bar when squating, what do you think?

Thank you!!! I think its more of a mental thing too, because during practice I lift heavy, but I never reach around the same numbers during a meet!

Very true. Very very true.

It does sound like you opened to close to your max. Why not open more conservative to get some confidence in the meet and then make a bigger jump?

Squatting low bar would likely help your leverages, especially if you squat raw.
