What is a good bulking calorie level. With minimal fat gain for a person who is 186 ibs and 5 10? my friends keeps saying he wants to get bigger but i keep telling him its what you eat so ya thanks in advance

10-15% above your maintenance.

There's no set answer here. You're going to have to pick a calorie number. Eat that number everyday for two weeks and see what your weight is doing. If it is going up slowly, keep it there until it quits working then increase again. If at any point you feel like you are gaining too much fat, cut back a little bit. This takes a little trial and error since everyone will be a little bit different.

It depends on how much fat he is carrying and how efficient his metabolism is. Everyones needs is different no matter how much they weigh. I myself was eating 5000-6000 cal a day with minimal fat gain and abs still visible at a bodyweight of 210-215, but I have clients at the same weight but taking in 2500-3000 cal and gaining.

If you're looking just to put on scale weight thats easy, but quality weight is different. You can start at BW x 12-15 then adjust from there giving it time, which means don't just stay on 2500 calories for a week then decide to change it, give it a few weeks. You have to be patient and listen to your body and the mirror as well.
