I've been lurking for a few months and figured I'd post my own journal. I've learned a lot from this website and I have applied it during my workouts. I'm currently doing SS and have been for the last few months.

Focusing on the upper body as opposed to legs is quite the norm, especially at the onset, lol. You can always overcompensate for the legs though. Good luck with your goals man.

Thanks a lot, appreciate it. Throughout my teen years I basically didn't touch squats/deadlifts, so I'm regretting it now. Just means I have to kick ass in the gym to bring my legs up to speed.

I recently got a calorie tracking program and started using it this last wednesday which is helping me a lot in reaching my goals. Basically I'm looking to be 175 by July 1st. 25 lbs in 4 months shouldn't be too hard, though obviously I don't want all of that to be fat. I'm just looking to bulk up a bit, increase my strength, and look good overall. Hopefully next weeks lifts are better than this weeks, I really struggled to keep pace with the program and it's frustrating.

Just like your quote says, "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up!" It's frustrating at times but just keep in mind the end results, the goals and snatching those goals. Looking pretty solid bro. Keep it up.

Hey guys really appreciate the encouragement. I've been hitting all my cal goals this week (4000 / day), and I'm really pumped for tomorrows workout. I'm also noticing pants that used to be loose on me no longer need a belt, pretty awesome feeling!

I need to focus on eating more. My bench is stalling out badly, and I haven't been focusing 100% on my diet. I have a diet tracking program which really helps, but it doesn't help if I don't use it. I'll put in extra effort from now on.

Also, thanks for the motivation you guys all give me. It's really appreciated.

Also I have a question for you guys. I've been on SS for about 6-7 months now, and was wondering when I should switch up my program? My deadlift and squat is still raising pretty steadily, but almost everything else is starting to plateu. I'm going to focus more on my diet and see what gains I can get still, but when would you guys recommend switching to a different program? And what program should I switch to? Thanks.

StLRPh
04-10-2010, 05:54 AM
Great job on the squats! For which program to move to you could check out the starting strength wiki for variations on SS. Something like the Advanced Novice can get you a few more months or just switch to something else. For strength focused ones: Wendler's 5/3/1, Texas Method, and the various 5 x 5 routines are all good. I'd look them over and see which one appeals to you the most and then give that one a go. I'll let someone else recommend bodybuilding stuff but I've heard good things about Baby Got Back and HST-12 will be available in about 4 weeks.

Let me know if you need some excel spreadsheets for the programs above. I have about a million of them on my computer and they help a lot with planning the weights.

Thanks man. I'm looking at Wendler's 5/3/1 and Texas Method right now. I don't want to switch off of SS until all my lifts stall, so i have maybe a month or so yet. Hopefully they don't stall that soon, I'm trying to adjust my diet to include more calories, but it's difficult. I'm a hard gainer, and admittedly have trouble eating more than what is "comfortable". But once I do stall out I'm going to switch off to one of those two programs I'm pretty sure.

Will update this later tonight once I have my workout, hopefully it's a good one.
