View Full Version : Powerlifting Meet in 3 weeks

So i just looked on Powerliftingwatch.com and saw there is a meet on march 27th..I was wondering if i have enough time to get ready for it or no?? If so how would i go about setting everything up,finding openers,etc..This will be my first meet so thats why i am a little confused..Im following 5/3/1 right now and am just coming off a deload week and will be back in the gym friday..
Just go and do it. Whatever your 90% is on the 531, use that or a little less for an opener. All of your openers should be fairly easy lifts that you can get any day of the week.

Do the meet. You won't regret it. I think Drew's advice on using your 90% number for an opener is a good idea.

I think if it times out like you are saying, then you can do your "5 week" and "3 week" and then use the meet for your "1 week." Take your 90% as your opener, maybe your estimated max on your second, and then add 5% to your estimated max for you third.

Youll be fine and if your not it will be that much easier to get a PR next meet if you arent.
I do 5-3-1 as well. Basically what I do is flip the cycle and only do singles. Example 90%, then 80, then 70. If I was you I would deload this week. THen do 90% of estimated max 3 weeks out then, 2nd weke out do 80% for a single, then deload before the meet.

I agree w/ scott reference to % used... However if this is your 1st meet make sure your form is perfected! Go over your fed's rulebook to ensure you are familiar w/ everything.
Have an experianced guy help you if possible and get everything tight! Esp. if your going geared... Jeez, I've been training geared for a year and I'm still trying to figure it out!

What meet are you doing in jersey on the 27th? Im doing the APA meet in Edison the same day.

at worst just treat it like a heavy day in the gym..... open with the lightest weight you feel comfortable taking down to depth, then just go for it....... have fun
