View Full Version : Is this a true statement?

I heard a guy say something to the effect of, "One pound of muscle requires 150 calories per day."

Implying that if you gained 10 pounds of muscle, you'd need to up your daily calories by 1500 per day. That seems unrealistic to me.

True, or not true?

OK, well doing a bit of googling, I've found answers ranging from 30, to as low as 6 calories per pound per day. But not 150. :drooling:

Let's say you are 200 lbs at 10% bodyfat.

180lbs of you is lean.

180 lbs x 150 cal/lbs = 27,000 calories per day...

LBM includes bone, skin, internal organs, everything that's not fat, so it's not 180 lbs of muscle. I doubt there's a set number that has been established though. OP, just from past experience this sounds like bro knowledge.

I've gone from 165 to 225 and my maintenance calories have only gone up about 500/day. I think it all depends on the individual, lean body mass, metabolism, activity level, etc... way too many variables to say X lbs = Y calories

I think 10-50 cals per day is more reasonable.
