Wasn't really sure if this belongs in the contest forum or not. It's a pretty informal contest we've done once before. If someone feels the need to move this to the contest forum, that would be just fine.

Travis and I discussed it, and we thought we'd have another Zercher contest. All just for fun, no huge prizes or anything. It was pretty cool last time we did it.

Originally, we were going to do it to see how much everyone improved from the last contest. We can still do that, but I realize there may be some people who want to participate that didn't do the the first one. In that case, the first timers should do it like we did the first contest, just try and Zercher squat as much as you can!

The deadline for entries will be Saturday, June 19th.

Here's a couple rules:
-Belt only

-No weight classes

-Do them from pins set where your hips are roughly at parallel. Depth is not a huge deal, this is for fun. Just no 2 inch range of motions, please.

-No zercher harness. You have to do them with the bar resting in your arms. You can use elbow sleeves or something to pad the bar if you feel like being a wimp about it.

-Get video for your entry.

Like I said, if anyone that did the last contest (that pretty much took place in my journal) wants to do this one, I think it'd be cool to see how much we can improve from our last PR's.

Let me know if you're interested!

Here was Travis's entry from the last contest:

Can I do them off a box, out of chains, with a cambared bar??? Just wondering, because that's how I did them last time.

LOL Sure!

Although I bet you could do some pretty sick weight with a straight bar. I've never done them with the cambered bar, but wouldn't that be harder?

Brian Hopper

Haha, I really have no idea because we have always done it with a cambared bar.

I bet the chains would make it easier to get setup, I know they do when I do chain suspended goodmornings vs. concentric goodmornings off pins. I think the cambered bar would make it harder though!

What kind of bar do you use, a bench bar or squat bar?

Haha me either...and I clearly remember thinking it was a terrible idea to hold 495 inbetween my forearms/biceps and that I wouldn't do it again!! :tuttut:

does this mean we are just lifting from pins?!? or un rack and decent like a normal squat?

Should have dropped my hips before I started like when I deadlift, I would have been able to do more and my butt would have been closer to parallel. Oh well, it was the same pin I used last time and was a 35 pound improvement

I just saw the video in your log, good job!!!!

I have that same problem, with my hips coming up first but it's all good. I'm doing them tomorrow so I'm trying to get my mind right already. Are you the only one to post up a video so far?

I had a lot of fun doing this- thanks for the idea, guys...but you are right, you feel it on your forearms for awhile. I didn't think I would get 315, but was pumped when I got 365.

Not as low as I would have liked to start, but that is the lowest rack position we had in my gym.

I just got done with those damn Zerchers and I ended up doing 630lbs for a 10lb PR. We do them a little different then most lifters. We do them chain suspended, we start sitting off a box, and we use a cambared bar. I still have a habit of my hips kicking up first, but I might start throwing in some Zerchers with just light weight to work on it more. I will post up a video as soon as possible!!!!!!

My forearms are killing me right now!!!!!

This is just my third week doing these so this vid is more for verifying I'm doing them riight. Here is my 365 lift. I was able to get 385 up but I forgot turn the camera on. I could barely get 405 off the pins and it started steam rolling my forearms so I let it go.

I done these on Tuesday for the first time after doing deficit deads and hit 495 first time ever doing them. I set the pins at hip level so it put me right at parallel as my starting point. I'll get some video up I believe I can get 500+ in my next session. They are brutal on the forearms for sure!!

Here's my video and Learning2Lift's

Mine is a tad sloppy, the bar started rolling out of my arms so I kinda had to pull it back in real quick and try and grind it out lol. A good 20lb PR. We tried to get the bar so it was just a little lower than hip height from starting

Martin , those jumps were cool...and what do you use as the safety strap on the power rack?

Thanks! We don't have any boxes suitable for box jumps sadly so it's the closest I can get.

The straps are lifting slings - like these http://www.gtf.co.uk/component/virtuemart/category/34/lifting-slings/lifting-slings?vmi=5

They are great for taking weight. Only problem is the are not adjustable for height. We use them as our safety when squatting too.

Cool video Martin!!!

I did them with Travis and Tyler and they sucked pretty bad, my arms did not hurt but my butt was on fire for a day or two,

I was happy with 405,for a 6'4" guy going from the same pins as "shorty" AKA Travis and Tyler I was happy, first time too. (just kidding travis, I know height is not an excuse)

We had some fun with these and it was right after a trip to Philly for me so needless to say I needed to blow off some steam!!!

Great videos guys this is truely a mans lift, although Travis said the way they are "supposed" to be done is to DL the weight to your knees then rest it on your knees (thighs) and Zercher it from there? Holy crapoly!!!! That would be hard!
