View Full Version : 6 days and counting till contest.....suggestions for attempt weights?

Ok, first competition in a shirt and I've been working in it for about 2 months. I worked out today and worked up to 485 as a PR. Touching in 455 today seemed a bit tight to get all the way down and 475 was as close to a perfect lift as i've ever done, long pause on my chest and good lock out (felt really good). I was thinking of maybe 1st lift - 440, 2nd - 475, and maybe a new PR for my final lift. Any suggestions? I was also wondering if I should lift again in the shirt before the competition, it's Mon morning?

Thanks for all the help and advice that i've received learning how to use the shirt.

if 455 was tight on the way down are you sure you can touch 440? I'd say set your opener at 455 or even 465 if 475 was that easy and depending on how well warm ups go you should be able to change your attempts. Then I would say base your next numbers off how the last attempt feels.

If 455 was iffy about touching and you did 475 so easily. I'd consider opening at the 475 if it's a BO meet. If full power you might open at 460 -465 since you'll be squatting 1st. At this point I wouldn't bench again til the meet. Bottom line is it's you that will have to live with the results, so; trust your gut feeling and go far it! Good luck!

I agree with Buddy. No more lifting until the meet. It's to late to get any stronger. For me, weights usually touch easier at a meet than in the gym. If 475 was that EZ, just open with it and go from there. Good luck.

I didn't mean to imply that 475 was actually easy, sorry for the misunderstanding. Don't get me wrong 475 felt heavy, but I meant that it was a really good lift with the pause on the chest and the lockout. I felt I may have been able to get 480 or 485. 475 is my best weight so far. I am able to touch with as little 415 lately. I'm hoping to get 480 or 485 as a PR for the meet. Hope I can get some feedback, meet is in 11 hours. I have 435 listed for my first lift, was thinking conservative. Thanks guys for all the help.

85%, 93% 100+% so ~ 415, 450, then 485-490. However if you can't touch that light of a weight just take it to a 2 board in warm up then open with 450ish. Just my 2 cents
