Are these the same thing (are you considered pro if you total elite)? Or are they different?

Just something Ive been thinking about.

For multi-ply there's a pretty big difference

SHW = Pro - 2450, Elite - 2085
308 = Pro 2350, Elite - 2040
275 = Pro- 2250, Elite - 2000
242 = Pro - 2150, Elite - 1940
220 = Pro - 2050, Elite - 1875
198 = Pro - 1900, Elite - 1780
181 = Pro - 1750, Elite - 1692
165 = Pro 1650, Elite - 1580

Oh and I believe Louie lowered the pro totals by 50lbs this year so the difference was even greater before.

i actually think both totals should get upped by 100 pounds. just my 2 cents.

Scott most ppl would agree with you, but at last years pro am there were like 15 ppl on both days so louie lowered it to try and get more lifters. It was a fun meet last year but would have been funner to see more ppl lifting

Myself, as a fan, I'd rather see the totals stay the same, but make it a one day meet. That way you can travel home on Sunday and not miss anything. I understand the $ aspect though and needing the entry fees in order to keep the prize money and quality of the meet high.

It would be interesting to see how many "pro's" there are in each class. They do seem a little on the low side, maybe another 100lbs may not be a bad thing for the pro total.

You can figure out how many there are if you get the lifter rankings on PLW. The popular weight classes (eg, 242-SHW) have 10-15. Some of the weight classes have <5.

Ah ok.

But does that include world wide lifters or just US? I would have thought there would be more than 15 in most classes each year

Seems crazy that "elite" totals are lower than "pro" totals.

That's just US I think. I think IPF style lifting is a lot bigger internationally. At least that's the word on PLW. Multi-ply is the American bastardization of the sport according to anonymous., haha.

Cool, thanks guys. Are there the same kind of classifications for raw lifters?
