just wondering if anyone here does any lite jogging with some weight? i recently started running only about 1/2 mile with a 80 pound bag on my shoulders. it feels like a ran miles when im done, and since i hate running i thought it was a good way to get some cardio in without running long distance.

Havent done it, but interested in doing it. What do you just fill a bookbag with 80 lbs. or you buy a pack?

i have a military seabag and just filled it with beach sand to 80 pounds and duct taped the top off. then i just threw it on top of my shoulders around my neck and went at a jogging pace. really hit my legs hard.

I would think that running with weight on you would be hard on joints like your knees, etc. Then again, pretty much all the stuff we do is hard on the joints so maybe it's a moot point.

thats why i only go 1/2 mile. i have arthritis in my ankle as it is, so im not trying to make it worse. but my joints feel better running 1/2 mile with the weight vs running a full mile or two. its a lot less time under stress, but with the added weight it makes it brutal on the legs. my hip flexors are very sore today from doing it.

I wouldn't recommend running much farther than half a mile.

Also be very cautious about what terrain your running on. Definitely no pavement

i run on very plush grass at the local high school here, running on pavement hurts my joints without the weights.
