8 Weeks out from the APF Georgia State Meet

Today we decided to pull a max effort. I ended up pulling 665 for a small PR but had to stop because I tore the same callus that got infected a couple of months ago. I honestly think that I was good for 675 maybe 685. I will probably have one more heavy pull which will more then likely just be an opener.

Good work! One suggestion I would make is perhaps having skipped the 645 lbs. It seems like a waste of energy.

Thanks alot Nick!!!!

I do feel the 3 days a week worked for me. However, I am thinking about going back to 4x week after this meet, since my schedule at home will allow it.

way too much pulling around the same weight. I'd have gone 600-645-685 or from 585 to 675 straight to it...I don't pull many sets but throughout my career the small close jumps always cost me top end. I could always pull 675 after 585 but never do it after pulling 635 on a regular basis. SWEET PULLIN!

Nice pulls Brian!
One of our guys has a real problem his palms tearing open. Taking fewer pulls helps him quite a bit. It's like his hands are only good for a limited number of pulls and after he hits that number his callouses will start to pull out.

Thanks Beverly!!!!

The crazy thing is, I normally don't tear it that often. What sucks is, I tore the same one that got infected and now i'm bugging out.

Strong pull Brian! Sucks about the callous though. Aside from letting it heal, are you doing anything to treat the callouses? I tried shaving them, filing them, cutting them, cornhuskers oil, etc. to no avail, every meet for 2 years resulted in a bad tear. A training partner with a strongman background suggested sugar scrub a few months back, which I tried, and finally made it through the last meet without a tear. Might be something to look into once you get it healed, again.

What is a sugar scrub? I have a big problem with tearing my callous on my right hand. It is holding me back.

Thanks,

Sugar scrub is a skin care soap/exfoliator that basically softens the callous and allows the skin to flake away over time. It is very gritty. You can find it at Target, drug stores, etc. in the chick's skin care section. I use it once a day before bed with warm water, could be a coincidence but I'm superstitious an won''t be changing this routine until I get another tear. It held up with 820 on the bar and some nasty Iron Wolfe knurling. I've also learned that, in training, once I see the skin start to wear, I stop.
