What are thing i need to take that are mandatory to get big and what minerals help in building muscle and recover

Take a look at At Large Nutrition (http://www.atlargenutrition.com). They only sell proven and high quality products. They won't sell you any snake oils that will only waste your money.

My personal recomendations would be:
Nitrean - High quality protein mixture
Creatine 500 - Cell volumizer
Fish oil capsules - Health and recovery
Multi-vitamins - General nutrition

You may also want to look into Results. I've heard excellent reports on it being the one single best supplement that you can take for strength and size. Also sold by At Large Nutrition. (http://www.atlargenutrition.com)

Food is what you need, lots and lots of high quality food.

The only thing that is "mandatory" when building muscle is diet. If set up correctly, it will have all the minerals you need and everything you need for recovery and growth. Forget about supps until you understand how to eat right.

You are right, of course. But some quality supplements can help give you and edge when the diet is already tuned in. Also, supplements can make getting your nutritional requirements easier without adding un-necassary calories. And the vitamins and fish oil should be part of any good diet.

Essentially: 1-1.5g protein per pound of bodyweight along with a substantial caloric surplus.

Incorrect. That would be best defined as "how to eat". When eating "to gain muscle" one should opt to chew their food longer and with more lateral movement of the jaw. Additionally, studies incorporating both ME and DE days of manducating have been shown to increase hypertrophy as much as 17% (1). Overtraining may be avoided by incorporating several rest days up to a week where complete abstinence form food is incorporated (2).
