so as you can see in my signature, i say that my max is 245lbs. well i do that for 3 sets of 6 which means that i could probably push a lot more for my actual 1RM. today after i was done with my workout which i trained biceps and chest, i decided to see how much i could max deadlift, knowing that this was kind of stupid because i had deadlifted on monday. well i racked up 315lbs and actually pulled it with good form, no pain no nothing except pure adrenalin rush and feeling of accomplishment haha. i actually attempted it twice and got it clean on both attempts, im still in disbelief. so now that i know i can push 315 as a max, where do i go on from doing deadlifting as in weight. do i continue to do 3 sets of 6 at 245 and add weight every week or some other path? i think pushing 315 for my size, weight, and age is pretty frigin good.thanks for the advice! I also need a new max for december 25 as a goal ahahah

If whatever you have been doing has raised your DL to 315, then keep doing it until it quits working. So yes go back to your 3 sets of 6 and add weight every week. As you've just figured out, you don't have to necessarily train at your max to raise your max. Just keep adding weight slowly and steady to your training. There's no need to radically change your training program while it's still working.

wow that's quite impressive you're able to deadlift 315 at only 135 bodyweight. I would definitely just stick with adding weight every week as long as you're making progress. and if you stall out then drop down a week and do some higher rep sets...taking a week off seems to help my CNS recover tremendously for the next session.

thanks for the advice! haha yahh i was in shock as well. but im going to keep pushing it and see how far i can get with my current weight!

If you want a bigger deadlift perhaps you should strart powerlifting training?
Its all about building the big three and you will pack on plenty of muscle as your numbers go up.

From my experience, be conservative with the dead lift. When I was in your shoes, I was really pumped when I hit 315... I then set my sights for 400. Kept lifting 20lbs heavier each week, finally reached 400x2, the next week I kept getting greedier and tried 385x5. The next day my back was RUINED. The injury really set me back a lot.
Looking back I should have cut my dead lifting down to once every 2 weeks and pushed maybe a 10 pound jump each time. Really listen to your body and don't be afraid to make slower gains. The time lost due to slower progression is MUCH better and shorter than the time/strength you can lose from getting injured.
So to answer your question, I'd scale back to maybe 1 or 2 sets of 5, adding 10-15lbs a week. Once it starts getting really heavy, scale back to once every 2 weeks with a 10lb increase.
If Deadlifting once a week is agreeing with your body then keep doing it.

yah i deadlift once a week, and i really do understand what you're saying raleighwood. i think it was kind of stupid doing it at the end of my workout for chest and bi's. i didnt use a belt or strap either. but im going to continue what i usually do cause well lol obviously its working haha, thanks for the help!

Be conservative and listen to your body... Fatigue accumulates. This is the reason people deload and ramp back up. You can't progress linearly forever and if you try and push the edge, you will get injured.
Just keep that in the back of your head while you are pushing your limits.
