I had the pleasure of seeing this in person. Im the guy running the rack in the video, I have never been that nervous before. With all the talk of how he kept getting pulled forward by the rack at York I was really worried I was going to f-up on that big squat. The video really does not do this feat any justice, Im glad I made the trip down to train and learn these last few weeks. Donnie is the strongest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and he is one helluva coach to boot. I wish I had a side video that one of the other guys took. The 1165 was the deepest squat I have ever seen in a canvas suit. I owe allot to him and Spud for all the help they have both given me. Don should make history this coming week.

I hope he gets a big lift in. Donnies not only super strong but hes a nice guy thats always friendly to anyone at a meet. If he utilizes a depth call hell be fine and hit a big lift. All the times I have seen him take big lifts at YORK he just went by feel. With a depth call from a honest training partner Donnie will hit a huge lift.

good luck to him

Awesome show of strength!!! I meet Donnie at the Mayhem APF meet in SC, back in July and he is a super nice guy.

I think he got robbed on the 1255lb. squat back this summer so it would be great to see him hit the big number! (1300lb.)

He is just a monster on the platform! I wish him the best of luck. Its sucks I cant make it out to see him lift.

Do you mean in 3ply? I don't see why depth out of a monolift is impressive.

I helped Donnie out at a meet he was hosting back in 2009. The topic of the day was going after 3,000. Its pretty damned funny hearing him talk about it...

"So, what are you going to squat?"

"Something heavy!" - Donnie

"Your deadlift sucks. What are you planning for your deadlift?"

"Whatever number I need to hit 3,000! I always pull whatever I need to!" - Donnie

Even though Donnie looks a bit scary, he is a genuinely great guy. Best of luck to Donnie! SHW!

Yeah he never gets the credit he deserves for his pull. He has pulled 832 years ago at the WPO. I was talking with him last week I would expect him to pull a low 8 at this meet. Maybe 1260, 940, 800. He told me when he went 2905 he had tore his groin in training an completely tore it trying to pull his second or third deadlift attempt. I also asked him about pulling raw, he told me there was no way he could get to the bar in a suit. I can wait to hear what he does this weekend.

Yeah that really pissed me off reading that. I got caught up on PLing watch arguing with Skatzilla over this. I was there I know how deep the squat was, anyone who would have had the same view I did wouldnt be saying this squat was high at all. it wasnt Don's idea to have a video made, the only vidoe he watched was on a cell phone taken form the side.

You are just as responsible for that **** storm. Making comments about IPF depth and 6 year old briefs only added fuel to that morons fire. Everywhere this was posted you had to add your two cents on the lift. Not needed, as it speaks for itself. Those who are impressed don't need any further justification of how awesome a feat of strength this is. Those who aren't certainly won't be swayed by your comments. No reason to make it your personal crusade.

Its like this if you look back I made one post then the guy started making attacks on me about the post I made. He was the only one I had an issue with other than someone saying the plates were fake. I shouldnt have gotten caught up in it. but it pissed me off I lost control and made a mistake.

Easily done. I almost made the same mistake and was sorely tempted to post in the thread. But as Joey said, it won't do any good.

I really just don't see the point of arguing about training videos. People can train however they want and if someone else doesn't like it, big deal. Guess I just don't get too wound up about that stuff. It's training.

I refuse to even go visit the thread on bb.com. What could they possibly be arguing about? The shavelines on his mohawk weren't straight enough or something? That was an extremely impressive feat of strength.

I tried to get this very same point across on the BB.com thread. But they started naming off raw lifters about how great they are, and yes I admire raw lifting and geared lifting alike, but come on. Most of the guys that are on BB.com are a bunch of a%*holes. I'm very tempted to stop posting over there all togeather.

There will always be haters..... I got my first one this week and I by no means am anything special yet..... I did my first 1000 in training and cut it a good 2" high, I knew it was high but I just wanted to handle the weight. I put the vid up with a description stating that it was 2" high as called from the side by Ernie Frantz himself...... and some RAW D-bag hated on the video about depth...... these people can't turn it off even for a training video. I haven't even done anything in the sport notable yet, Donnie is a much bigger target for these fools to try to cut down to feel better about themselves.

Anyone know how DT did in the Lexen Fall Classic today? I read that he got his 1,165 squat opener but was red-lighted on 1,260 for depth. I have no idea if he even stayed to bench or pull. I'm interested on if he finished out the day or not.

edit: bombed on the bench apparently.

Saw that firestorm. You even stated after the lift that you thought it was high. The majority that ridicules a lift have never posted a video. As Chris stated earlier, training videos are just that, nothing more.

that's exactly it..... I love seeing training vids like Donnie's. Even though the meet didn't go his way it was awesome to see him working towards it in training.

I'm sure he'll just come back hungry for it next time.

So after all this hoopla, does anyone know how Donnie did yesterday?

akick
10-25-2010, 09:11 AM
It was in my last post, though poorly written.

Got his first squat attempt at 1,160ish, missed 1,260 twice on depth. Didn't get a bench in - I believe he tried 915 three times and his third wasn't locked out. That's about all I know.

Sucks, but sure he will be back.
