Strict OHP. But this would turn some larger meets into 15-hour marathons.

OHP.
+1. Our local APA does OHP and also strict curl at most events.

pie eating or dizzy bat...... maybe a 500 yard ice cream truck chase....... that and being able to do a tie-breaking pose off and dance routine.

Break the clean and jerk into two separate lifts at an Olympic weightlifting meet.

LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!! People who want to change powerlifting to something else are like these stuffed suits who are running the NFL and never played! "Let's fine the hard hitters!" We used to celebrate what they're fining now! If you don't like powerlifting or Olympic lifting like it is...do something else! But leave our sports alone. There are plenty of flag football leagues out there for the wusses; and if you're not a good squatter, bencher or deadlifter (or if they scare you) I'm sure you can find other like minded guys in the local gym to have a curl, pushup, treadmill contest with. I do, however; think a beer drinking/pizza eating contest afterwards would be great (just to celebrate)!

Strongman already has nearly every lift imaginable from meet to meet anyway.

Just my opinion,

Real Powerlifters can do heavy squats, deadlifts and benchpresses,

Lifting and doing heavy OHP or strict Military Press would make these strength based athletes more versatile and Complete IMHO

I guess heavy OHP are for Olympic lifters and Strongmen.

lol this thread has some good lolz.

I really don't get when some meets do the strict curl thing. Are they being serious or doing it to be silly?

They sure are serious about it. I think they call it powersports in some feds lol.

For PL meets, Strict OH press. Thats a true test of strength.

For strongman.... Hell, those shows have everything imaginable already

It's so they can extend the meet for an extra hour or so and give out more trophies. It's basically as terrible as you would expect.

First off, I think powerlifting is 100% perfect as is but I do think the strict standing military press is probably just as important a lift as the bench is. It wouldn't make much sense to have two upper body pressing lifts though, some type of barbell row would be more appropriate, my vote would go to a chest supported row with a real barbell, not one of those chest supported row machine types.

It would make more sense to me. Powerlifting has the deadlift for a pulling movement for the lower body, so if any lift were to be added then it would make the most sense, IMO, to add an upper body pull.

For strongman, any type of bench press/floor press influenced event would be cool.

If your going to Add another Event to (snip) Strongman Competitions

I thought everything was pretty much fair game for a strongman show. I know a couple guys I train with said they've done strongman shows with a benching event ( I assume it was raw ).

Powerlifters can lift the most weight of any sport,

Let say a Powerlifter can

Deadlift = 850 lbs
Squat = 800 lbs
Bench = 625 lbs
Strict Military Press = 295 lbs ???? kinda weak compared to his other lifts,

thats why I think they need a official OHP or strict military press, to see how much the Strongest of the Human Race can lift above his head without doing O.L. techniques. Just my opinion sir :)

I like the way you think. Strict press it is. I'll have to try this lift you speak of.

lulz, dont you have a 400+ strict OHP out there somewhere?

which brings me to the post above yours.. I don't know many 600+ benchers that are only getting 250lbs over their head.. hell I'm only a 400lb raw bencher and can hit 265 for a double strict standing.. I guess it depends on the gear their using to get to 600+

I wonder what an OHP shirt would look like???

Sleeve angle would be on top. Everyone would look really stupid between events with their arms over their heads. It would look like everyone was getting held up at gun point.

Ok, I hate doing it (I'm lying), but here's my strict ohp. I love strict becuase I don't know how to use my legs in the lift anyway. I get less weight when I try. Hey, I'm proud of this lift so why not pimp it out.

Mr. Vdizenzo .... much respect,

do you agree that Strict Military Press or Strict OHP should be added to PL events and meets ?

:)

LanceGoyke

Strict is too relative a term.

I think the Overhead Press used to be in something... I want to say Olympic Lifting meets. It basically turned into a standing bench press (my back hurts just thinking about it).
